I don't know if this helps, but two facts can help us guess:

Category V - bottom 10%
Categor IV - 10-30%

Breakdown for IQ
90-109    Average    50%
80-89    Low average    16.1%
70-79    Borderline    6.7%
Below 70    Extremely low    2.2%   (2.2)

And here's the percentile/score breakdown:
IQ    Percentile
65    01
..
80    09
85    16
90    25
95    37
...
So my guess is that Category IV folks range basically are a large spread centering on "low average."

OK.  That scares me.

Do I remember correctly that during the Viet Nam War so many draftees were not sufficiently literate to use the Army Field Manual that there were remedial reading programs in Basic Training? I think there was also simplification of the texts to a third grade reading level, but I'm not sure.

I'm more concerned with the emotional issues than the IQ ones. Soldiers unable to control their anger do more harm than good.

I'm pretty smart conventionally, but I'm pretty certain I'd be a lousy soldier. I'm guessing there are some fine soldiers with mid low-range IQ's. But "high school drop out" indicates emotional and social problems, too.

And all I remember about the vietnam war is the taste of my momma's milk. ;)
