The Times, UK has this hiccup the GOP will use to make into a teapot:

Barack Obama sacks adviser over talks with Hamas

One of Barack Obama's Middle East policy advisers disclosed today that he had held meetings with the militant Palestinian group Hamas - prompting the likely Democratic nominee to sever all links with him.

Robert Malley told The Times he had regularly been in contact with Hamas, which controls Gaza but is listed by the US State Department as a terrorist organisation. Such talks, he stressed, were related to his work for a conflict resolution think tank and had no connection with his position on Mr Obama's Middle East advisory council.

"I've never hidden the fact that in my job with the International Crisis Group I meet all kinds of people," he added

But Ben LaBolt, a spokesman for Mr Obama, responded swiftly, saying: "Rob Malley has, like hundreds of other experts, provided informal advice to the campaign in the past. He has no formal role in the campaign and he will not play any role in the future."

U.S. losing political stronghold in Lebanon -
Hezbollah routs pro-government gunmen, controls Beirut

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Lebanon's Iranian-backed Hezbollah took control of the Muslim part of Beirut, tightening its grip on the city in a major blow to the U.S.-backed government.

The European Union, Germany and France urged calm and a peaceful resolution. Syria said the issue was an internal Lebanese affair while Iran blamed "the adventurist interferences" of the United States and Israel for the violence.

The fighting, the worst internal strife since the 1975-90 civil war, was triggered this week after the government took decisions targeting Hezbollah's military communications network. The group said the government had declared war.

"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."

Frankly, the whole thing is stupid. If you don't talk with these people, how do you expect to get them to stop shooting at you?

Kill because somebody was killed. Get killed because he killed. Do you think peace will ever come like that?
