Please explain just how Harry Reid is supposed to make 50 equal to 60?

He isn't letting Tom Coburn hold bills; the rules of the Senate permit Coburn to impede whatever legislation he chooses to. As can any Senator.

Today, Reid got every Democrat present to vote for cloture on the Coburn omnibus (Kennedy and Obama weren't there, both for obvious reasons; I suspect that if their votes had been needed, they'd have showed up). Reid also got 3 Republicans to go along, and Lieberman too.

Please explain what he is supposed to do? And when you do, please try to show some idea of how the Senate works.

with all due respect, you've missed the point.

for 6 of the past 71/2 years we've...the "progressives...left wing whatever...have been handed the sop that there's noting we can do...<sob>...we're the minority party...<whine>

now that they're the majority we get this? one senator can derail the entire train? wtf were they doing for 6  years...a rhetorical question.

well guess what? you, l, and anybody else who thought getting the demoRAT's to majority status was going to change things...we got fucked. only now, if you're paying any goddamned attention, you can see teh BS for the kabuki that it is.

our government is dysfunctional unless you're part and parcel to the system...bend over and lather up sucker.

my 2¢

the revolution will not be televised...

Yes, one Senator can derail the whole train, unless the legislation at issue can command 60 votes. That sucks.

Fall out of a 10 story building, and you'll hit the ground hard. I guess that sucks too.

But yelling at the Democrats for not being able to make 50 votes look like 60, that's just silly... or trollish.
