Excuse me? Despite popular belief -- for which we have, ironically, the Clintons to blame -- the role of first spouse is not a government office, and it has absolutely no official role or statutory recognition. Being married to the president carries with it some traditional expectations but no actual obligations. And we can safely assume that a First Gentleman pretty much does away with traditional expectations, can't we?

Except, with the Clintons they've billed themselves as a co-presidency. Always. Going back to 1992...when Hillary was tasked with the Healthcare program. Recall that?

And in this cycle they've led supporters to believe; vote Hillary get Bill. What will First Gentleman be doing? Certainly not serving crumpets and tea?

On second thought, hold your answer...let's not go there.

I haven't seen nearly as much "package deal" talk from Hillary as I did from Bill back in '92. In fact, I can't think of a specific example from this time around. That doesn't mean I didn't miss something -- I often do -- but if anything, it seems as if Hillary is guilty more of not explicitly dismissing the notion than actively promoting it.

Bill Clinton's blunders on the campaign trail have tarnished his reputation as a political virtuoso.

After he made yet another campaign-trail blunder, Hillary Clinton has told her husband to back off. Many in the Democratic party, even those in Bill's corner, would like him to back off, too. The debate about his political legacy is effectively over, and no one but a handful of prominent Democrats will argue that his presidency was salutary for the Democratic party.
[.]We've seen his bad side -- temper tantrums, parochialism, arrogance, promiscuity with the facts -- and none of his good side.
His post-presidency cocoon, gilded in no small part by the American taxpayer, seems to have left him ill-prepared for the modern news cycle. He's certainly no longer his party's best political strategist.
