Both.

Kennedy is pushing universal healthcare for all.

the sense too (and not to be macabre) we need not wait for Kennedy to be in transition before we honor him. It's a poor habit of humans to say nice things of someone,.... only after death.

You'd bitch whatever he did.  So he should tell the blogoshere to find a candidate that can beat him or shut the fuck up.

You should run Kucinich.  Yeah, he would win.

What a bunch of aholes.  You will kill health care the economy and help bomb Iran because you would rather lose to McCain.

Obama knows what he's doing.  What a President of Blogland then have your little circle jerk and you can all pretend you are something special.

Where is your great candidate.  Whoever it was got their ass kicked by Obama.

Because he knows how to win and he ain't gonna spy on your little holier then thou website.

Get it.  He is not enemy.

What a bunch of whining assholes.

Re: The Good News

These kind of 'jesus' pictures always freak me out-so far removed from reality on so many levels yet way way to many american's think a picture like this epitomizes everything 'good' about america..and separation of church and state-ha-can't get much more church and state entwined with crappy pictures like this.

A picture like this should be labeled as one of those 'look for what is wrong in this picture' things.  As others have mentioned above-who knew that jesus was some white, reddish haired hippie looking dude who way back when knew the U.S. was gonna be THE country.

Like I said these kind of pictures freak me out-because of the mentality of the people who believe these pictures are righteous patriotic/religious pictures.  The only ones worse are ones like this with an added american eagle with it's wings spread out over jesus..the very worst of the jingoism displayed in one fell swoop. And my personal pet peeve about the eagle being our national bird-noble bird my ass-eagles are freaken scavengers/vultures-how did we end up with that lousy bird as our 'noble' bird?

Re: We Have No Privacy

I'm not sure how they are going to get the "unique internet address" (by which I guess they mean the IP address) or the e-mail address of everyone who has ever watched a video on Youtube. While some IP addresses are static and do not change over time, most are dynamic and do not remain the same. And they can't get your e-mail address if you don't give it to them. I've watched lots of videos on Youtube, and have never given them any kind of information.

However, I DO agree that this sets a terrible precedent, and could lead to serious consequences.

"Bush has just absolutely done me in."

You're certainly not alone in this one: the last 8 years have done lots of people in. My only comfort lies in this: sometimes a structure gets built that cannot possibly last because it was not built of solid enough materials, or because it is far too top heavy, whatever. So we prop it up as long as possible, not being ready yet to admit it simply cannot be fixed, and will have to be torn down, or allowed to fall down, so we can start over and do it better. Then comes along  so called leaders like Bushco who only know how to  stomp and kick and throw fits and wage wars and they  manage to kick whatever is left of the foundation all to hell in no time at all.

NOW there's no more ways to go on ignoring the need to build brand new structures out of brand new materials.
Is Obama one of those who be able to keep his feet while things fall the rest of the way down, and then stick around to help clear away the rubble and draw up new plans? I don't know. I hope he's one of them, and  if he is, I hope there's plenty others like him ready to step up..

Kiss your privacy behind, one step at a time:

Viacom lawsuit: Google told to hand over all YouTube user details

YouTube users to be revealed

The internet giant Google is being forced to hand over the personal information of every person who has ever watched a video on the YouTube website as part of a billion-dollar court case in the US.

A judge in New York has ordered that Google, which owns YouTube, must pass on the details of more than 100 million people - many of them in the UK - to Viacom, the US broadcasting company which owns channels including MTV and Nickelodeon.

The data will include unique internet addresses, email accounts and the history of every video watched on the website, giving Viacom's experts the ability to conduct a detailed examination of the viewing habits of millions of people around the world.

The decision is the latest twist in a long court battle between the two companies over claims that Google encourages copyright infringement on the video sharing website. Judge Louis Stanton, who is presiding over the $1bn lawsuit, said the data handover was required in order to allow Viacom to build its case.

snip

While information on who has watched YouTube's countless videos of sneezing pandas and laughing babies may seem trivial, civil liberties campaigners fear the ruling could set a precedent for the level of privacy afforded to people using the internet, and that internet companies could now be sued in order to get hold of sensitive personal data.

"The court's erroneous ruling is a setback to privacy rights," said Kurt Opsahl, a lawyer for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, an online civil liberties group based in San Francisco. "We urge Viacom to back off this overbroad request and Google to take all steps necessary to challenge this order and protect the rights of its users."

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2008/jul/04/youtube.google

I don't know if any of you were following this case...I did not even know about it till I read this article.

It's not about kitties and children's videos, it's about how now people can be endangering their lives to publish controversial videos...from isolated nations or occupied territories. No privacy left.

All I can say is WOW, who is this judge?

Hey Alice! Good to see you too. :)

The only thing that died is the Illusion, and it needed to, Alice. Illusions blind us, and I was blind for far too long. I can see better now, not only what America is not (and really never has been, yet), but the very real possibility that once the structures that are corrupted crumble and/or are demolished, those coming up next will be able to find some way to do it all differently. I can love knowing that and yes, I love doing whatever small thing I can, to strengthen those whose turn comes next!

To atone for going there, let me go here:

I'm proud of our free speech and our language (English is mucho flexible, capeesh?).

I'm deeply ashamed of our media, our political machine, our pop culture, our dominant food culture, our business culture, and our anti-intellectualism.

Again, I'm glad I get to say it.

"We're now beginning to see that perhaps it's not so popular to be a suicide bomber."

There was like this totally cool kid in the lunchroom and like everyone was joining him out of a desire to be popular.  Who knows where he came from or why he randomly decided it would be cool to have other kids do some suicide bombing?

Then like these people who used to be cool but had gotten less popular totally killed all these people who weren't actually families of the new popular bomber kids but they looked and talked kind of like them and now oh my god nooooobody thinks it's cool anymore.  Wait... this just in.  Now lots of kids who were total irrelevant dorks now are angry at the old cool kids and are joining up with the suicide bomber clique.  Oops!

Re: We Have No Privacy

we haven't for a long time.

it is becoming increasingly clear that our concept of "privacy", much like "democracy", have long been nothing but an illusion...or delusion, if you will.

we're living in a proto-fascist state, where ..."The State organizes the nation, but leaves a sufficient margin of liberty to the individual; the latter is deprived of all useless and possibly harmful freedom, but retains what is essential..." mussolini c. 1932.

ergo, it's important to maintain the appearance of democracy by maintaining the illusion of it by having elections every 2 years...low-intensity democracy is a better tool for keeping a diverse population under control  than is an outright dictatorship, however, the mechanisms and tools of fascism are still applied, albeit, quietly.

this too will pass, the msm inspired cw being: they're celebrities, what did they expect? and the sheeple will move on to the latest american idle offering.

happy independence day.
