There They Go, Again

Crooks and Liars has this up:

''Katie Couric pulls a Deborah Howell on Howard Dean (with video).''

"We expect Katie and all interviewers to ask tough questions of their guests. Questions that at least are based on fact, not ones that are repeating GOP talking points.

Katie: Hey, wait a second. Democrats took-Democrats took money from Abramoff too, Mr. Dean.

Howard: That is absolutely false. That did not happen. Not one dime of money from Jack Abramoff went to any Democrat at any time.

Katie: According to the CRP, Abramoff and his associates gave 3 million dollars to republicans and 1.5 million to democrats...

Howard: Not-one-dime.

Katie: We'll obviously have to look into that and clarify that to our viewers at a later date...

Howard: Yes Katie, I hope you'll do that. I hope you will actually get the story right.

Think Progress: "Katie then cited a Center for Responsive Politics study as her evidence, but a look at CRP's website here and here show that Democrats accepted no money from Abramoff."-from Crooks and Liars.

This is more rovian "fear and smear." Too bad Katie was a tool for them.

Update [2006-1-26 23:40:18 by howieinseattle]: Renee in Ohio has posted a transcript of this "interview" on Howard-Empowered People.

Sam of Majority Report (Air America) played this too -- during his interview tonight of Atrios.

Howard Dean came back at Katie perfectly.  Calm, rational, but very, very, very firm.

Tonight's episode isn't up yet in the archives, but should be soon.

Howard has been boring holes in their facade on every interview he does with the Traditional Media...Pretty soon, they will be afraid to even have him on.

Katie is a Tool...she must practice in front of the mirror everyday for hours, sliding her glasses down on her nose, to look intellectual, and whipping them off, when she tries to "get serious".  What a sorry excuse for a "journalist"

Key here is the line...."and his associates."

I'd be inclined to find out what that means.  Does it mean his clients woh are his victims?  Or perhaps the other members of his lobbying firm?

Tough to tell, and I'm sure Katie hasn't a clue to what the answer is.

Any bets on how long it will take for Katie&Co. to 'clarify' that for the viewers?  Or if they do their clarification will be one of those sorta kinda clarifications that still screw over the democrats?

I'm firmly convinced that if the so called media/news people were really doing their jobs bush would not be in office period. What we have is a sort of 'soft propaganda' machine going which tries to pass itself off as our illustrious(not) press.

Ho hum, it is just SO tiring to research a story these days. Much simpler to read it as it comes off the wire service. Probably pleases big daddy upstairs as well.

"There they go again" is exactly the format these disgracefully incompetent and lazy jerks deserve to be seen in. They need to be ridiculed for being newspeople unable to even get the simplest and most obvious facts straight. They need to be criticized for the arrogance and laziness that has brought them to this substandard level of profesional turpitude, and then they need to be dismissed as we move forward to embrace and support more vigorously those who do value the truth and have the courage to demonstrate it.

I've officially started my boycott of CNN today after 20+ years because the odious William Bennett debuted on Blitzer's show this afternoon in his new role as CNN contributor. Virtually all the accurate info I get comes from my time on the internet, and of course much ofthat raw data originates with the corporate media, but on the net it gets fact checked virtually immediately so the chances of me being misinformed are greatly reduced. This is how I like it. Matthews, Russert, et. al. can all go shit in their hats. They are nothing to me now.

Crooks and Liars have another video, of Bush fumbling his answer to the question on Hamas victory. Boy, what Bush was inarticulate... I found a transcript of the press conferece. Having some mercy, I simplified his fumbled expressions. But I wonder, how honest is Bush with the bold-stressed statements (applied to himself)...

Q: Mr. President, is Mideast peacemaking dead with Hamas' big election victory? And do you rule out dealing with the Palestinians if Hamas is the majority party?

THE PRESIDENT: Peace is never dead, because people want peace. [I articulated] a two-state solution early in my administration, [as] a vision for people to work toward, a solution that recognized that democracy yields peace. And the best hope for peace in the Middle East is two democracies living side-by-side.

So the Palestinians had an election yesterday, and the results of which remind me about the power of democracy. You see, when you give people the vote, you give people a chance to express themselves at the polls -- and if they're unhappy with the status quo, they'll let you know. That's the great thing about democracy, it provides a look into society.

And yesterday the turnout was significant, as I understand it. And there was a peaceful process as people went to the polls, and that's positive. But what was also positive is, is that it's a wake-up call to the leadership. Obviously, people were not happy with the status quo. The people are demanding honest government. The people want services. They want to be able to raise their children in an environment in which they can get a decent education and they can find health care.

And so the elections should open the eyes of the old guard there in the Palestinian territories. I like the competition of ideas. I like people who have to go out and say, vote for me, and here's what I'm going to do. There's something healthy about a system that does that. And so the elections yesterday were very interesting.

On the other hand, I don't see how you can be a partner in peace if you advocate the destruction of a country as part of your platform. And I know you can't be a partner in peace [if] your party has got an armed wing. The elections just took place. We will watch very carefully about the formation of the government. But I will continue to remind people [that] if your platform is the destruction of Israel, it means you're not a partner in peace. And we're interested in peace.

I talked to Condi twice this morning. She called President Abbas. She also is going to have a conference call today [with] the Quartet about how to keep the process on the road to peace.
