Eminem: "Mosh" Before Bush's SOTU

Fri Jan 27th, 2006 at 07:43:08 PM EST

Thanks to BradBlog, we can see Eminem's hard-hitting streaming Flash video. (I had to install the latest version of Flash, but it was easy.)

Update [2006-1-27 19:56:45 by susanhu]: Sam Seder on Air America Radio heard that Salazar and Ben Nelson are taking polls on the NUMBER of calls and faxes they are getting:
Ben Nelson- D/NE : (202) 224-6551 (site)
Ken Salazar- D/CO : (202) 224-5852 (site)
Here's ONE PAGE that lists all the senators, D.C. phone numbers , Web sites + e-mail links.
Update [2006-1-27 20:23:20 by susanhu]: ManEegee reports that Nelson's voicemail box is full so he suggests you FAX Nelson via www.tpc.int. He also urges you to ask Akaka (D-HI) to reconsider his previous remarks and join his fellow Democrats for the filibuster -  (202) 224-6361

If you have a fax machine: Janet Strange has put up a diary with ALL the fax numbers.

My message: Senate Democrats MUST FILIBUSTER the Alito vote - it is time to TAKE A STAND - I will NOT GIVE my money, time, or energy to any senate Democrat who does not FILIBUSTER!

Update [2006-1-27 21:46:51 by susanhu]: Just in from Democrats.com: WE CAN STOP ALITO THIS WEEKEND (full text below the fold).

Update [2006-1-27 22:4:6 by susanhu]: mlk19569 has another great idea: "One other tactic is to ask wavering Senators to abstain from voting for cloture, rather than voting no. Frist needs 60 votes to end debate; if we get a mix of 41 nos and abstentions, we are in good shape."

I love this ... I've always felt badly I was too young to fight in the Revolutionary War! :)

Just in from Democrats.com -- and DO SCROLL THROUGH because there are SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS!

WE CAN STOP ALITO THIS WEEKEND

We Can Stop Alito

The last two days have been amazing.

Early Thursday afternoon, we broke the news that Senator John Kerry would lead a filibuster against Judge Sam Alito if he could get 41 Senators to sustain the filibuster. Three hours later, CNN confirmed our story.

Naturally, the White House freaked out and told Senator Bill Frist to schedule a cloture vote as quickly as possible - Monday at 4:30 p.m. - to prevent Democrats from uniting behind Kerry.

Then the White House called its media whores at the NY Times (David Kirkpatrick), AP (Jesse Holland), Pentagon Post (Charles Babington), CNN (Miles O'Brien), and MSNBC (Chris Matthews) and told them to trash John Kerry for daring to challenge the will of Emperor Bush, and to repeat over and over that Democrats did not have enough votes to stop Alito.

But even as Karl Rove was doing his dirty work, progressive activists like you were calling your Senators urging them to support John Kerry's filibuster.

And one by one, Democratic Senators began to turn around.

http://democrats.com/alito-48

At the start of the day, only Dick Durbin and Debbie Stabenow supported Kerry and Kennedy. Just before noon, Hillary Clinton's office called to say she supported us. Then Harry Reid came on board, along with Barbara Boxer, Russ Feingold, Ron Wyden, Chris Dodd, and (I think) Chuck Schumer.

Most importantly, we even picked up Dianne Feinstein, who just yesterday said she opposed a filibuster.

That's 12 votes for a filibuster - and exactly 12 more votes than we had two days ago!

I believe we really can stop Alito by Monday at 4:30 p.m. - but here's what we must do.

1. Ignore the media whores. Karl Rove is feeding them lies as he always does, and they are swallowing those lies as they always do. The only media that matters is the media we are creating right here by calling each Senator and getting a YES or NO statement from them.

2. Wake up the sleeping bloggers. Where are the biggest blogs, including DailyKos.com, TalkingPointsMemo.com, CrooksandLiars.com, and AmericaBlog.com? (Complaining about how Democrats played last week won't cut it -we're in the Super Bowl and we can win this damn game if we get Democrats to play their best game on Monday - and hopefully the rest of this coming week.) Thanks to Agonist, BobGeiger, The Democratic Daily, DemocraticUnderground, Eschaton, Firedoglake, MakeThemAccountable, Mark Crispin Miller, PoliticalWire, Vichy Democrats and everyone else who's plugging this.

3. Keep calling the Senators who are undecided or opposed to a filibuster. You can call their DC office all weekend and leave polite but firm voicemails urging the Senators to support Kerry's filibuster. When offices open on Monday 9 a.m. ET, make another round of calls. Let's shut down the Capitol switchboard on Monday!

http://democrats.com/alito-48

4. Call the DNC (202-863-8000) and the DSCC (202-224-2447) and tell them your 2006 contributions will depend on the success of the Alito filibuster. Tell them they need to get every Democratic Senator on board.

5. Call talk shows like Air America, C-SPAN, etc. and talk about what we're doing on this blog and how we're killing ourselves to stop Alito - and how we can win if everyone who cares about the future of our Democracy joins us.

6. Keep hope alive - because American Democracy is worth it!!!

One thing, I think that his making the public announcement has put the pressure on a lot of Senators who would not have otherwise gone along. It sure got all of US hopping!

First : Call the Democrats (Mary Landrieu, Ken Salazar, Barack Obama, and Tom Harkin) who oppose Alito but also said they oppose a filibuster. We must persuade them that a vote against Alito is meaningless if they don't support a filibuster. Senator Salazar (D-CO) 202-224-5852 Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) 202-224-5824 (If you can't get through, look up the Senator's District Office number in your phone book or here: http://capwiz.com/pdamerica/dbq/officials/?lvl=C) Senator Barack Obama Phone: 202-224-2854 District Offices: Chicago: 312-886-3506 Marion: 618-997-2402 Springfield: 217-492-5089;  Senator Tom Harkin Phone: 202-224-3254 District Offices: Des Moines: 515-284-4574 Cedar Rapids: 319-365-4504 Davenport: 563-322-1338 Dubuque: 563-582-2130  Sioux City: 712-252-1550

Second : Call your own Democratic Senator: 888-355-3588 or 888-818-6641. If you can't get through, look up the Senator's District Office number in your phone book or here: http://capwiz.com/pdamerica/dbq/officials/?lvl=C

Third : Unbelievably, three Democrats (Ben Nelson, Tim Johnson and Robert Byrd) support Alito! Tell them to either support filibuster or at least "don't get in the way." Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) 202-224-6551 Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) 202-224-3954 Sen. Tim Johnson (D-SD) 202-224-5842
888-355-3588 or 888-818-6641. If you can't get through, look up the Senator's District Office number in your phone book or here: http://capwiz.com/pdamerica/dbq/officials/?lvl=C

Fourth: Call the "Red State" Democrats: (Message same as above -- "No" is meaningless) Tom Carper (DE)
Kent Conrad (ND)
Byron Dorgan (ND)
Blanche Lincoln (AR) Mark Pryor (AR)

Fifth : Call these "Blue State" and pro-choice Republicans: (Message: A "Unitary Executive" is dangerous to balance of powers--please do not get in the way of a filibuster.) Lincoln Chafee (RI)
Susan Collins (ME)
Lisa Murkowsky (AK)
Bob Smith (OR)
Olympia Snowe (ME)
Ted Stevens (AK)

For extra credit, call all of the 2008 Presidential candidates who are sitting Senators--Evan Bayh, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Russ Feingold, and John Kerry--and tell them to either LEAD THE FILIBUSTER or KISS YOUR SUPPORT GOODBYE. 888-355-3588 or 888-818-6641. If you can't get through, look up the Senator's District Office number in your phone book or here: http://capwiz.com/pdamerica/dbq/officials/?lvl=C

You can also send that message to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (202-224-2447) and the Democratic National Committee (202-863-8000).
Polls and public opinion are another way to apply pressure -- get word out about why Alito needs to be filibustered:

Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. (Click here)

People for the American Way has collected nearly 65,000 signatures to send to the Senate, please add yours: Save the Court Petition

John Kerry has endorsed this anti-Alito petition, signers' names will be read into the Congressional Record:http://www.johnkerry.com/...

It gives them cover when they go home to their constituents.  They technically didn't vote for filibuster but they did nothing to stop it either.  It's a wink and a nudge move.

We also might want to include "moderate" republicans in Blue states, like Chafee and Snowe and Collins.  They might not actively participate in the filibuster, but we might be able to ask them to abstain from voting at all.

Lyrics:

Eminem
Mosh

VERSE 1:
Scrutinize every word, memorize every line
I spit it once, refuel re-energize and rewind
I give sight to the blind, my insight through the mind
I exercise my right to express what I feel inside
Its just all in your mind, what you interpret it as
I say to fight you take it as I'mma whip someone's ass
If you don't understand don't even bother to ask
A father who has grown up with a fatherless past
Who has blown up now to rap phenomenon that has
Or atleast shows no difficulty multi-taskin
And juggling both, perhaps mastered his craft, slash
Entrepenaur, who has helped launch a few more rap acts
Who has had a few obstacles thrown his way through the last half
Of his careeer, typical manur, moving past that
Mister kiss his ass crack, hes a class act
Rubberband man, yeah, he just snaps back

(Chorus)

Come along, follow me, as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark that we need, to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength, come with me, and I won't, steer you wrong
Give your faith and your trust, as I guide us through the fog, to the light at the end of the tunnel
We gon fight, we gon charge, we gon stomp, we gon march through the swamp, we gon mosh through the marsh, take us right
through the doors
Come on

VERSE 2:

All the people up top, on the side and the middle, from the ghetto, lets all form and stomp just a little
Just let it gradually build, from the front to the back
All you can see is a sea of people, some white and some black
Don't matter what color, all that matters is we're gathered together
To celebrate for the same cause, no matter the weather
If it rains, let it rain, yeah the wetter the better
They ain't gon' stop us, they cant, were stronger now more then ever
They tell us no we say yeah, they tell us stop we say go
Rebel with a rebel yell, raise hell, we gon let em? No
Stomp, push, shove, mush... Fuck Bush, until they bring our troops home
Come On

Come on

VERSE 3:

Imagine it poorin, its rainin down on us, mosh pits outside the oval office
Someone's tryin to tell us something, maybe this is god, just sayin we responsible
For this monster, this coward, that we have empowered
This is Bin Laden, look at his head noddin, how can we allow something like this, without pumpin our fists
Now, this is our, final hour
Let me, be the voice, in your strength and your choice, let me simplify the rhyme, just to implify the noise
Tryin to amplify to times it, and multiply it by six-teen million people are equal at this high pitch
Maybe we can reach alqueda through my speech, let the president answer our high anarchy
Strap him with a AK-47, let him go fight his own war, let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our own soil, no more psychological warfare to trick us to thinking that we ain't loyal
If we don't serve our own country, we're patronizing our hero
Look in his eyes, its all lies, the stars and stripes, have been swiped, washed out and wiped,
And replaced with his own face, mosh now or die, if I get sniped tonight, you'll know why, cuz I told you to fight

Come on

There is another version, that one is the second of Mosh. The orginal version was meant as a GOTV during the Presidential election. That one was equally powerful too. One the orginal version, everybody went to the ballot boxes.

You can find here.

He also had another one before that one. I don't think that made it as big because it was very controversial.

I ask you to support the filibuster against Judge Alito and to vote against Judge Alito.

Judge Alito is a wolf in the fold, wearing sheeps' clothing.  He will not respect or uphold the rights of others to privacy, civil rights and voting rights.  He has shown time and again that he is on the side of business when it comes to redressing the injuries of citizen plaintiffs and employees.

I don't live in Nebraska, I live in Wisconsin presently.  Yet I am called to write you because it is important as Democrats to make a principled stand on this issue.  Judge Alito is not, repeat, not worthy to sit in Justice O'Connor's seat.  Justice O'Connor learned to moderate her views and to tread cautiously during her time on the bench.  Judge Alito is not about to change his hyperconservative views, his thinking, or his heart.

Please reconsider and vote with other Democrats for a filibuster of Alito and a vote against Alito.

Thank you.

are now posted on his website

"I am proud to join my friend, the senior Senator from Massachusetts, in taking a stand against this nomination. I know it is an uphill battle. I have heard many of my colleagues. I hear the arguments: Reserve your gunpowder for the future. What is the future if it changes so dramatically at this moment in time? What happens to those people who count on us to stand up and protect them now, not later, not at some future time?

"This is the choice for the Court now. I reject those notions that there ought to somehow be some political calculus about the future. This impact is going to be now. This choice is now. This ideological direction is defined now.

"This fight is not a fight for the short term. This is a fight over two very fundamentally different views about what defines us, what is appropriate in the relationship between government and citizen, and the right of our citizens to be free from unlawful government action. These are not just words. This is not something we just casually throw out there. `Unlawful government action' is part of what motivated people to come here in the first place and to fight for what we love and cherish.

I knew you meant Orwell, and it should have occurred to me ... but I was also trying to think back to those actual years and what was going on.  To be precise, I was collecting the Watts signatures in 1981 ... and by 1984 I was a single mom with a home business but taking my daughter in a pack on all the marches ... Greenpeace, animal rights, etc.

There was something about becoming a parent, for me, that really affected my commitment to fighting ... how could I be laid back and leave a bleak future for my  child and her offspring?

I was feeling all hopeless and as if nothing I did would make any difference.  Then I read your comment about the American Revolution.  It made me laugh and then it made me get off my butt and fire off some more emails.  Thanks.

Something else that someone on Sam Seder's show said tonight ... i wish I could remember how he said it .... when Bush took his oath of office, he didn't take an oath to fight enemies however he chose ... he took an oath to UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION.

Kind of says it all in its own way.

From John Nichols at The Nation:

Seen in the context of the threat that Alito poses, the use of the filibuster -- an entirely legitimate legislative tool -- to block Alito's nomination is not "bomb throwing." It is an appropriate and necessary embrace of duty by senators who recognize the entirety of their advice-and-consent mandate. Of course there will be political risks for those who back the filibuster. But senators do not swear allegiance to their political security; they swear it to a Constitution that requires them to hold the executive branch to account. In this moment, and in this circumstance, senators can only provide the necessary checks and balances by backing the filibuster.
Read the whole thing, it is quite good.

How come this is common sense to us, and soooo alien to the rest them?  Thank goodness for those boys in Boston, Sons of Liberty, indeed!

me that the reason these papers are calling for a filibuster is because they've actually done some gasp research on Alito's judicial past.  That's how I came to the conclusion that he was a danger to our democracy.

I have to wonder if the Senators who weren't in the hearings did their homework....I am not optimistic.  I think the Republicans have relinquished control of their chamber to the White House, and will follow him off the cliff.  Unfortunately for the rest of us, we are being dragged along.

Do not Despair in the face of overwhelming odds...
Remember, that we DO NOT control anything. They have it all right now. Their hubris will be their downfall.
A rag-tag bunch of minuteman against the most powerful Army in the known world, took to their pamphlets (blogs), dressed up like Native Americans, threw some tea overboard in the middle of the night, fought from behind stone walls...guerrilla terrorists, as they are know nowaday, shook the world.
Never give up, never surrender, as susanhu said, it's for the children..
Fight the bastards in your pajamas,in the workplace, never let them think for a minute, they are safe.

As Caro posted earlier, BuzzFlash was reporting a rumor that Senator Obama was undecided on whether to support a filibuster of Samuel Alito.

Well, WQAD out of the Quad Cities is now reporting that rumor as fact. More than that they are reporting that Iowa Senator Tom Harkin will not support a filibuster (though he will vote against Alito).

While Harkin won't vote for a filibuster, Obama remains undecided. But both men see distinct problems with Alito's judicial philosophy.

Call both Senators and let your voice be heard.
