Well Done

A little over a year ago I had the occasion to be mocked as though I was a naïve and stupid little child for having the temerity to suggest that Curt Weldon might actually have to run campaign commercials this cycle (I'd provide the link, but it makes me look pretty naïve and stupid). Quite clearly, a lot can change in a year, with recent polling showing the formerly very safe Weldon trailing Democratic chalenger Joe Sestak by eight points. While I remain naïve and stupid, if Crazy Curt doesn’t start blanketing the airwaves with commercials very soon, he will not be in office when the Feds finally frog march his plump ass off to the nearest Federal facility for the criminally insane. Actualy, he probably won't hold on to his seat regardless of what he does from here on out because everything that could go wrong for him, is going wrong for him. From the Philadelphia Daily News:

MOVING SWIFTLY in a criminal investigation involving U.S. Rep. Curt Weldon, federal agents yesterday raided six locations in Philadelphia, in Delaware County and in Florida.

The probe apparently is focused on links between the congressman's official activities and clients of his daughter's lobbying firm, first reported in 2004 by the Los Angeles Times.

Weldon denied any wrongdoing by himself or his daughter.

Yesterday, the FBI carried away boxes of potential evidence from the homes of the two founders of the lobbying business - Karen Weldon, 32, who lives in Queen Village, and longtime Republican power broker Charles P. Sexton Jr., 70, who lives in Springfield, Delaware County.

Other warrants were served on the Media offices of the lobbying firm, North American Solutions Inc.; the Philadelphia office of attorney John J. Gallagher, a longtime friend of the Weldons who reportedly introduced Karen Weldon to one of her clients, a Russian aerospace firm; the Jacksonville offices of a Russian-based conglomerate known as Itera International Energy Corp., and a $7.5 million beachfront mansion in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., apparently owned by an Itera-related company.

For those of you unfamiliar with the inbred colony of degenerates and thugs otherwise known as the Delaware County Republican machine, Charlie Sexton is a very big player. Never one to mince words, Susie Madrak once wrote “take the crudest, most ruthless, amoral thug you can think of - and Charlie Sexton makes him look like a prince. In fact, I was just saying to someone the other day that if I ever ran into Charlie again, I'd tell him I took great pleasure in the fact that he would be going to Hell.” Needless to say, odds are pretty good that Sexton will do just about anything to make his life a little more comfortable before his inevitable trip to the underworld, and that includes cooperating with the feds. I imagine there are more than a few Delaware County Republican politicos who are feeling a little squeamish this morning thinking about all of the tunes Charlie Sexton could sing if wants to. And even though you’ll never hear about it if you don’t live in the Philadelphia media market, that is a bigger deal than what happens to Indiana Curt, who was probably going to lose anyway. The result would be the crippling of an extraordinarily powerful Republican machine now in complete control of a county populated by people who have little in common with the extreme right wing fanatics currently controlling the national Republican party. That's a good thing.
