To be totally honest I think it was my attempt to pretend that looks don't really matter and that I'm not as superficial as I fear that I am.

Problem is - time proves that I indeed am as superficial as I fear.

We had a lovely fifth-of-an-inch of rain on Friday.  Real rain, not just drizzle. Which was just enough to get all of the fires under control and send many of the firefighters home for xmas.

And we have more rain, not merely showers, predicted for tonight and tomorrow - which will put the kabash on the traditional Aussie Xmas Barbie (bbq) for many families, but given the drought I doubt they'll be complaining (actually Aussies are world class complainers - not as bad as whinging Poms, mind you, but close).

Here is my mini holiday rant!!!  As you all know I design t-shirts, bumper stickers and the like.  I belong to a designer yahoo group and we did a gift exchange this year.  I designed something for my person and shipped it so they would have it way before Christmas.  The names of who we were to design for were handed out 11/23.  I set here on Saturday before christmas at 5:30 with zilch, nada from my secret santa.  This happens every damn time I do one of these things no matter if it is at work, a social group or what.  I should have learned my lesson after all these years but I am still pissed!!!  I am thrilled that the person I designed the cup for recieved it and loved it and I hope the person who forgot me has a fucking horrible holiday season!!!

LOL Well, here is more history and why I should never have tried again.

Many years ago a woman at work didn't get mine because she didn't think homsexuals celebrated christmas.

At a bank I worked at, my secret santa handed me a 20 on christmas eve and said she didn't like me anyway and refused to spend time shopping for me.

At another work place, my secret santa gave me a present that was under her tree I am sure because it was a pair of women's christmas socks.

Yet another one gave me 4 boxes of the chocolate covered cordial cherries even though anyone who knows me knows I hate them.

With this type of history, I know you wonder why I would believe this time would be different.  I am a sucker and alwqays want to believe the bext of people instead of the worst unless they are Republicans of course.

Very Italian.  Will grapes grow that far north?

I completely support any plans you have to make it lower maintenance.  When I moved into my house the only flowers in the yard were roses.  After a few years I had them all dug up and replaced with grass (they were really old and didn't bloom much anyway).

You don't have to go to that extreme!

I wish I had the ingredients for this

Hot Brandy and Rum Punch.
(For a party of fifteen.)
Take 1 quart of Jamaica rum.
1 quart of Cognac brandy.
1 pound of white loaf-sugar.
4 lemons.
3 quarts of boiling water.
1 tea-spoonful of nutmeg.

Rub the sugar over the lemons until it has absorbed all the yellow part of the skins, then put the sugar into a punch-bowl; add the ingredients well together, pour over them the boiling water, stir well together; add the rum, brandy and nutmeg; mix thoroughly, and the punch will be ready to serve.

It is very important, in making good punch, that all the ingredients are thoroughly incorporated ; and, to insure success, the process of mixing must be diligently attended to.
I would probably substitute spiced jamaicam rum for the regular rum. LOL

I'll leave the eggnog to others, though, unless it tastes better in the virtual world than it does in the real world.

We finished up the shopping this afternoon and are furiously wrapping presents while the daughter and granddaughter are otherwise occupied (out of the house babysitting their favorite two-year-old). There are a few things we didn't manage to find, and a couple of great pickups -- a big ol' boneless turkey breast we bought at the local food service supply store for $1.29 a pound, for instance, that will keep us in turkey for a few days, and I bought myself a very nice present while I was there -- a 5# bag of frozen potstickers. Potsticker soup tonight!

So I'm thinking I'll help whip up some waffles for breakfast, then follow it up with the turkey, fake (a/k/a StoveTop) stuffing, cranberry sauce, and we'll spend the rest of the day sitting around doing nothin'.

Hi Omir.

I say don't wrap then and hide them around the house.  That way no wrapping and they'll be preoccupied all day looking for them.

Hey! It's like Christmas and Easter! I like this idea.

The computer might be a little hard to do that with, though. I'm putting together a computer for my granddaughter, and I'm not sure whether the problem would be that it's too big to hide, or whether there are already so many computers around she wouldn't notice an extra one.

I like the red ribbon winner better than the blue ribbon winner.

I haven't seen any around here like that.  I think one guy the next town over goes overboard like that.

well, we have some that are a lot tackier around here. 1 house has at least 15 different types of lights.  I think they add new ones each year and buy whatever is on sale.

Did you ditch the family for the night?  Or are you just escaping "for some important computer work"?

We went from 5 to 12 here and now back down to 5.  So it's quite again.

did you give them knock drops?  5 people from my family are never quiet unless they are asleep and then they still snore loud enough to wake the neighbors.

Everybody is calling it a early night.  We were out late last night and my brother and s-i-l and nephew where up at 5 am and didn't get back until about 6:30 pm.  So I've locked the doors and turned off the lights.

Nope not a one.  If they haven't already got a place to stay, then get a hotel for the night.

My daughter looked at the grand prize winner and said she liked it. It probably loses something when you can't see the lights flashing on and off.

The neon snowman, though, she thought that was tacky.
