''Stop Attacking Russ Feingold''

by howieinseattle

Update [2006-3-15 22:39:47 by howieinseattle]: Blue Mass. Group is saying that Sen. Menendez (D-NJ) is also supporting Feingold's resolution. DEMAGOGUE says, "Donate Your Spine to Senate Dems .... Call Now!" The Rude Pundit opines, "Message To Democrats: Supporting Feingold Is the Path To Enlightenment." RAW STORY surveys the political scene in the Senate. "DINOs Strike Again: They Cower, They Cave" is from Blogcritics.org.

"Republicans are so scared of having a legitimate debate about Iraq or national security that they have only one reaction to news of their failures or calls for accountability.

On Monday, Democratic Senator Russ Feingold introduced legislation to censure the President for breaking the law by creating a secret domestic spying program. Agree or disagree with his proposal, as a Senator -- and as an American -- he has the right to speak his mind and express his views without Republican Senators questioning his patriotism.

But that's exactly what happened. This week Republican Senator Wayne Allard of Colorado, in an interview with Fox News radio, said in response to Feingold's action that he has "time and time again [sided] with the terrorists".

Send a message to Senator Allard: shame on him for questioning the patriotism of another Senator. Sign this petition and it will be delivered to Allard."-from the DNC.

Feingold told Ed Schultz today during an interview today on his radio show that Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) has agreed to support his censure resolution. Schultz told his listeners that the interview would be available on his website later today.

Maybe we should start attacking.

Not to investigate a known crime is obstruction of justice and derilection of duties. That is what I told Senator Durbin's office today.

I'm on Dean's mailing list and got a message to send Allard a little love today. Told him he's the worst kind of traitor. But these messages do no good except to let off steam.

Good to know though that Harkin is backing Feingold up. That's two more than we had on Monday morning.

Feingold is working his way to the top of my baddass list.

Whew, I'm glad to hear Harkin's on board!  Wrote him the other night to urge him to support Russ, and was hoping this wasn't necessary.  He's a bit of a loon, but you gotta love Tom.  Beats the hell outta that other loser from my state, Grassley.  Grrr....

With all due respect, contacting Allard is a waste of time.  He's a BushCo™ waterboy all the way.

Might I suggest an alternative strategy?

Contact our vichy Dem Ken Salazar...part of the infamous Gang of 14...non-responsive re: the Feingold Censure Motion, an give him a little encouragement.  We could use the help.

Peace

Allard should be at the top of it. I don't know when his term is up, but MoveOn and the rest should go all out to attack him without mercy when the time comes. CO is purple enough that he can be brought down.

If the ol' "traitor" game is the best they've got, the GOP doesn't have a hell of a lot. That's what was so brilliant about Feingold's statement, and his interviews: no emotionalism, no ranting, just facts and logic that demand responses of the same kind -- responses that the GOP is showing itself incapable of delivering.

FDR's response to progressive demands: "I agree. Now go out and make me do it."

I'm so pissised my saliva has dried up.

BOP's Shaula Evans has a dare on how to deal with our "Vichycrats"

[m]y various email conversations with different friends all spontaneously came around to the same subject: how disgusted we are at the national Democrats' lemming-like desire to emulate the Vichy government of Nazi-occupied France (hence the term "Vichycrats"), in their absolute inability to oppose anything, stand up for anything, or do anything other than appease, enable, and support the Republican party.[..]

..(with a literal handful of notable exceptions) Democratic Senators left Russ Feingold hanging in the wind when he introduced a motion to censor Bush?[..]

For a refreshing outbreak of healthy democracy, go check out Crooks and Liars on Boston Legal to the Rescue, where they share a video clip from Boston Legal of actor James Spader delivering an impassioned monologue that covers WMD, to torture, Abu Ghirab, Guantanamo, and illegal wiretapping and points out the importance dissent. It's a real barnburner. Go check it out.

And my challenge to you is: I dare you to email the link to your representatives in Congress.

Send them the link and ask them: why don't you talk like this?

(my emphasis)

You know, I'm becoming a reluctant yellow dog democrat.

Well, "You can't vote for war and disown the results"

I noticed the MSM was particularly vicious to the other senators, even noting Hillary Clinton "hiding" behind someone.

It just seemed a little too snarky for the traditional media. My opinion (which is probably wrong), is that they were trying to shame the Dem senators to stand up for something, anything.

I honestly think the rank and file reporters are on our side, but can't move forward unless a story has traction. Watergate would have died in the press if congress hadn't held hearings on the matter.  Then the press and the committees fed off each other in a positive feedback loop.

--Don't ask others to do, what you are unwilling to do yourself.

Actually I was pretty snicky. As soon as they answered I said" how do you call it when I know of a crime and  don't report it or investigate it? Ah, Derilection of Duty? He annswered :yes. And then I asked: like whith the Presidents NSA illegal wire tapping?
