Prez and Plame to Attend Correspondents Dinner

Editor & Publisher reports:

Will Valerie Plame be the talk of this year's White House Correspondents Dinner? E&P has confirmed that she is slated to attend this year's gala, along with her husband Joseph Wilson and several other notable non-journalist guests, such as Alex Treback and Ben Rothlisberger, according to organizers.

As in the past, attendees at the annual black-tie affair, to be held on April 29 this year, often look for a controversial visitor who might spark extended gossip around the open bar. When outsiders such as Donna Rice, Michael Moore, Fawn Hall or Ozzie Osborne were escorted to the gathering, they sometimes drew nearly as much attention as the president during his remarks.

This is a very clever decision. The President will have to deliver stupid irreverent jokes ["Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be somewhere. Nope. No weapons over there. Maybe under here"] to an audience that includes the woman whose career Bush destroyed.

Somehow, I doubt he'll repeat any jokes about being unable to find weapons of mass destruction at this year's correspondents dinner. But who knows? Maybe he'll point at Valerie and rip off a couple of one liners about how hard it is to raise twin babies when you're unemployed. It could happen. The Prez is a mensch.

Do you mean is a mensch?

I can think of no word that applies less to Himself than "mensch." "Momzer" would be appropriate, as would "shlemiel," "putz," "nogoodnik," "shmuck" and "gornisht," and he's definitely a "ligner," but never a "mensch."

Oh Boy...this is priceless.  The little coward is going to have to be in the same room with the eloquent Wilson-whose proven he's definitely no coward when in Bagdad during first Gulf War-and Valerie Wilson-who by definition of being covert CIA is no doubt also no coward-I double dog dare him to make jokes about the whole Wilson affair.

My guess is he's trying hard to come up with a reason to be a no-show.

Yesterday he was hearing the voices, at this dinner he will be seeing  the ghost of Fitzmas past.  Wonder what additional surprises await our Prez. at the dinner?  Maybe Laura will zing him again?! (personally I think she has some issues)

It is time for Democrats to remember who got us in this mess, oppose them and not each other.

Something like what Silvio said on last week's Sopranos?

With Vito gone AWOL, Silvio goes to see Vito's wife to suss out how things are "in the romance department." She refuses to talk about it. "Vito is a good father and a loving husband." Silvio leaves, and tells Tony. "My business, I'm around a lot of women. That one ain't getting laid."

There is a name for this sweet irony.

A lot of sniffing going around. Today's shuffle at the WH is seen as a slap on the wrist for Rove. OR maybe Rove is being demoted so that when Fitz rings the door bell there'll be one less high profile title appended to his name.

Sidney Blumenthal has a piece in The Guardian UK that's posted at Truthout.org

"As Scott McCellan departs Fitzgerald investigation into Karl Rove has entered a serious new phase."

Talkleft has a piece up.

"Rumor: Fitz Met With Plame Grand Jury Today Re: Rove"

Perhaps Fitz may show as a Master Chef with a menu prepared by the GJ.

Wondering what's for dessert?

Well, "You can't vote for war and disown the results"
