The Dutch are rather polite in their reaction in comparison to BooMan's angry writing, in essence however, there is little difference.

1 NRC Handelsblad treats her readers with articles written in the American papers about the situation in the Middle-East, as the article over Israel by Alan Dershowitz (Opinion page July 27).
When the reader wants to understand the background of the person and political affiliation, all that is mentioned is his position at Harvard University as professor. The university has announced that the vision of Dershowitz is personal and has no bearing on the view of the university.

More realistic would be a mention that he is the writer of the book The Case for Israel and one of the most renowned Israel lobbyists in America. Dershowitz plays a dubious role by declaring critics of Israel's policy as nazi sympathizers and anti-semites. Dershowitz has made a plea to grant the American authorities the power to torture prisoners under certain circumstances in a non-lethal manner.

2 The article by Alan Dershowitz is proof that a university professor in his major is no expert on other subjects. He may be professor in criminal law at Harvard University, he has little knowledge of ethics, history or exact science.

His view that "Israel the conflict started by Hamas and Hezbollah must be able to finish, even if that would lead to civilian casualties in Lebanon and Gaza" is lame and abject. Fact in this conflict is Israel started with bombing raids on Lebanon after an Hezbollah attack on an Israeli border control unit and not Hezbollah with rocket attacks ...

3 To illustrate the moral level of Alan Dershowitz, I will quote from the preface his friend Hendrik Broder wrote for the German version of Dershowitz' book: 'Plaidoyer für Israel'. I want to remark that the author bears a joint responsibility for the content written by his friend.

Hendrik Boder writes:

"It is true, presently Israel is more offender than victim. That is good and just, after the Jews for 2,000 years have tried the role of eternal victim, which brought solely bad experiences. Perpetrators have usually a longer life expectancy than victims en it gives more pleasure [macht mehr Spass] to be a perpetrator than being a victim."

It's Iran, Stupid!

Even before finishing the military operation, Israel needs to hammer home "the Iranian-Hizbullah-Syrian axis of terror" message. By doing so, he said Israel would create legitimacy for future action against Hizbullah, or even against Iran.

"Iranian's President Ahmadinejad doesn't only want to erase Israel off the map, he wants to erase the map and build Islamic components. Lebanon is the clearest example, and we need to show that."
