Surging Insanity! Escalate the 1/27 DC Protest!

by tampopo
Wed Jan 10th, 2007 at 08:21:01 AM EST

The madness is growing and spreading - war without end.

United for Justice and Peace has organized a protest march in DC on Jan. 27th.

Please spread the word locally. If you have the resources but are unable to make it, consider sponsoring someone who can make it.

Let's make this so big that the media must report it.

Let's make this so big that members of Congress feel safe enough to oppose this administration. Are we living in a representative democracy or not?

A BooTrib meet up with a million or two tagging along would be pretty good!

Oh, I am so in :)

Here are some details from RenaRF at dKos on where the blogging contingent will meet up:

As it stands now, we will meet at the Visitor's kiosk just up 15th street NW from Constitution Ave NW (away from the monument).  The kiosk is up about half a block on the left.  The start time will be one hour before the march event start times as it stands now, as we did last time.

She also has some pictures from the September 2005 march up in her diary from yesterday.

Hey, that's where we met up in September 2005...

We need to do a meetup the night before at Capitol City Brewing again, I think.  :)

Me either!  Did you get my email a couple days ago?  I was asking about that very thing (and offering to buy you a couple beers in the process) :)

I checked the UFPJ website and there are people in DC supplying lodging, so that might be a good way to go.  I'm fine with crashing on a floor.

I've been lazy about email lately...sorry. My wife's grandad lives in Rockville, a couple of miles from the Twinbrook metro station. I was thinking of crashing with him. I'll call him in the next couple of days and see if we (if you don't mind) can crash there. Either that or my mother in law. But she's farther out toward Columbia. I won't make a guarantee, but I'm almost certain I can find a place for you.

Gotta go back to work. I'll check my mail tonight.

No problem, I just wanted to make sure I didn't end up in your spam folder or something :)

Thanks a bunch!

Hey EJ - please note the new location:

NEW LOCATION: Starbucks Coffee: Liberty Place 325 7th St NW Washington, DC 20004 (202) 628 5044 This is literally at the Archives/Navy Memorial stop on the DC Metro for those without transportation. The time is still flexible depending on when the march activities officially start.

RenaRF had a diary at DKos offering some blogger coordination info at the march (alas it is not on the Rec list):

"...I have established a Coordinator's spot on the march's events map page.  If you search for events within x miles of zip code 20026, you should find one SPECIFICALLY for bloggers."

On the events page she wrote:

I'd like to take this opportunity to invite all progressive bloggers and particularly those from Daily Kos, MyDD, SwingState, My Left Wing, Booman Tribune, Political Cortex, ePluribus Media, Street...

And the LOCATION:

LOCATION CHANGE! UFPJ was kind enough to let me know that the march start will be on the Mall between 7th and 3rd Sts. Therefore, I'm going to change to a location that we can all find and then easily walk to the march from. NEW LOCATION: Starbucks Coffee: Liberty Place 325 7th St NW Washington, DC 20004 (202) 628 5044 This is literally at the Archives/Navy Memorial stop on the DC Metro for those without transportation. Events around the nation are posted on the map page. Those far from DC might find one closer to attend.

(Thanks to EJMW for the info.)

Does anyone know if our old Yahoo Bootrib action commitee site is still up? I was wondering about getting a hold of Brother Feldspar again to see if he's planning on coming. It'll be cool to meet ej and Janet T too.

I really like this idea --

Skip the Plane, Take the Train

A person flying round-trip from California to Washington DC will consume 150 gallons of petroleum. A person traveling by train will consume half as much at 75 gallons for the same round trip, with a corresponding reduction of pollution and funding of wars for oil.

The PEACE TRAIN to DC's hope is in the spiritual principle that change often happens during times of stillness, prayer, meditation or waiting. Travelers on board the PEACE TRAIN to DC are urged to approach the journey as a prayer and meditation, with a deliberate investment of time and energy to focus our attention on ending US military aggression and sharing the PEACE TRAIN to DC message in a spirit of love and compassion with our fellow travelers.
