Some Facts About Obama's "Madrassa" Education

by Steven D
Tue Jan 23rd, 2007 at 09:05:56 AM EST

Facts are pesky little devils:
Hardi Priyono, deputy headmaster of the Basuki school in Indonesia, told CNN that his institution -- which Obama attended four decades ago, beginning when he was 6 -- is not a madrassah.

"This is a public school," Priyono told CNN correspondent John Vause in Jakarta. "We don't focus on religion." Classes in Islam are offered to the predominantly Muslim students at the school, CNN reported.

To re-echo Josh Marshall and Atrios, who exactly at Fox News and The Moonie Times (whose Insight magazine subsidiary published the original "story"), is going to get axed for spreading this unfounded rumor, or at least offer a retraction?

Oh right. I forgot. That rule only applies to when the media attacks Republicans even if the essential basis for the story is true. Instead let's just blame Clinton for the whole snafu, shall we? Any Clinton will do. Like say, this one.

This is how democracy dies. One lie at a time.

I saw this coming. The vicious attack started with Obama's middle name, Hussein.

Professor Juan Cole a basic primer,

Rightwing Smearers of Obama Don't know a School from a Madrasa

"The allegation was that he had gone to a radical "Saudi-funded" madrasah. Wolf Blitzer had the professionalism to send out an experienced reporter to the school that Obama attended when he was 6 years old in Indonesia. He found it just an ordinary modern school with boys and girls and both male and female teachers, which taught modern subjects.

The smear campaign would be hilarious if it weren't so satanic."

crap that makes me want to puke.

Oh, and how is a madrassah any different than a Christian school that indoctrinates children in much the same way? Oh yeah, that's right their the terrorists.

Olbermann went off on this last night...calling them the Fox Nothing Channel, because they certainly don't produce anything even remotely resembling real news.  And he pointed out how clever they were to blame their lack of facts on another Dem presidential candidate, instead of correcting themselves.  2-for-1.

I don't know why progressives continue to patronize MSM instead of just refusing to watch, listen, or read their stuff. If they would subscribe to progressive media we could fund our own progressive media, like the Independent and the Guardian in England.  I think we could even get a progressive version of USA Today.

Progressives actually publicize the MSM and Fox by continually criticizing them.

It ain't that easy...

Unless you can get advertising to pay the bills, no progressive news channel (cable or not) will be able to get off the ground and stay viable.

Plus, with cable, your channel has to be picked up as a moneymaker.

News is not a moneymaker here in the U.S.  Neither is investigative reporting.

Most of the cable channels are owned by the five multinational corporations or six, if you wanna count General Electric owning NBC, who don't want mess, only profit.

Even PBS is corporate-controlled.

'Democracy Now !' with Amy Goodman is a one hour show available on more and more public TV networks, as well as Pacifica Radio. I try not to go a day without hearing/watching Amy.  http://www.democracynow.org/

I like to get a 'different side' of international news from the MidEast by watching 'Mosaic.'   I get it through public access TV, but this link can give you information to find out where you can watch.  http://www.worldlinktv.org/
