Allegations of a Cover-Up from Inside

Is a conspiracy theory still a conspiracy theory if a 'White House adviser' believes it? Many have suggested that Alberto Gonzales is not resigning because he acts as a bulwark against direct attacks against the castle White House. By keeping Alberto in place, it makes it harder to get at Karl and Harriet. You might expect people that are, you know, holed up in the castle White House to dispute that theory. According to Michael Isikoff, you would be wrong:

But Gonzales himself was hanging tough. "We believe the burden is now on the Democrats to prove that something improper occurred here—and they haven't done that," said a top Justice official (who asked not to be ID'd talking about nonpublic matters). Publicly, the White House was standing by its A.G. One White House adviser (who asked not to be ID'ed talking about sensitive issues) said the support reflected Bush's own view that a Gonzales resignation would embolden the Dems to go after other targets—like Karl Rove. "This is about Bush saying, 'Screw you'," said the adviser, conceding that a Gonzales resignation might still be inevitable. The trick, said the adviser, would be to find a graceful exit strategy for Bush's old friend.

Is it me, or does this represent a kind of palace White House revolt? Where is the message discipline? Where is the loyalty? Since when do White House advisors portray the President as engaged in a cover-up?

Things are going south, fast.

It seems like Bush's connection to reality is growing more tenuous (re the Iraq War as well as Gonzo).  This may be good for the Democrats' future electoral process, but as long as Republicans in Congress refuse to force Bush to confront the truth, I can't help but think this is even worse for the country in the near term than earlier in the Bush Admin, when they were in control enough that reality somewhat resembled what they wanted to make it.  So, I guess I hope this period ends soon, one way or another--impeachment would be nice but I can't realistically hope for that yet.

for the war crimes indictments but like everything else the Illuminati doesn't want this.  It's not a "government" matter it's a policy dictate from people much higher up.  Gonzo goes nowhere.

There is some infighting going on.

But it will be managed delicately.

The spectacle of "democracy being restored" now has the momentum, and it will be heartwarming in the extreme.  It will be excellent TV.  And even the liberals will be moved.

Of course, things like the Patriot ACT and aether voting ("no voting machine left behind"--no, not quite, it was something like that . . . ) will not get scheduled for repeal, and everyone will forget.

Then, with a new, competent war leader installed, the War for Oil will begin in earnest.

The Fates are kind.

I can see Rove and the insiders using Gonzales as a bullwark, but not Bush. He is such an insecure "playground bully" that being faithful and a gang member is really important to him.

To me, this is one more sign that the "keepers" are in charge, not Bush. They are using Gonzales to protect themselves. It's happened more than once before.

Embolden the Dems? I wish it were so.

Bushco riding roughshod over institutions and the constitution and finally, the will of the people.  This bunch is so f**king arrogant they can't even do normal stuff, like politicking and schmoozing with the oppo.  They think they have to sneer at them and run over them.  Even the guys on their side get the shaft just sos they can say to the so-called "loyal" ones "looky, see how good we are to you!!"  These are high school bullies not world leaders by any means!
