Refinish 69 Needs our Help

by boadicea
Wed May 16th, 2007 at 01:25:15 PM EST

I see he hasn't been able to bring himself to post an update of his situation, which remains difficult.

So I'll do it on his behalf.

From Texas Kaos:
Anyone who knows me, knows how much I hate posting this diary but I am at the end of my rope and it is unraveling fast. You can read the back ground on the story in Depression is Real. I will be homeless as of tonight.
This community is very dear to Refinish69, I know, and you have been generous in your offers of assistance to him.

If you can offer any additional help, I know he will appreciate them, and I sincerely thank you on his behalf.

You can contact him at refinish69@austin.rr.com

Thanks for the heads up, boadicea, will try to get in touch with him immediately.

Refinish, if you're reading this, please get in touch with one of us so we can see how to assist.

Right now, we're trying to find a safe place for him and the Diva Dogs to stay for a few days.  If you're in the Central Texas area, and can help please let him know.

to my many friends at Booman!!!!!  Wanted to give an update.  I have found a place to lay my head for a few days and am working on other things as well.  Looks like my stuff will hopefully be in storage all over the city in different garages and spare rooms until I have a place again. LOL I have someone helping get through the paper work to get medical, housing and financial assistance till I am back working and on my feet again.  Hopefully that will come though soon.

Great news.

My wife and I have both struggled with depression.  She lost 6 months from her job because of it and despite insurance and accrued medical leave we spent close to $10,000 for her psychiatric care and meds.

My depression, coupled with my chronic autoimmune disorder symptoms forced me to retire from my law firm, and my disability insurer refused to pay any benefits despite my doctor's records indicating I'm disabled.  I'm simply more fortunate than you because my wife still has her job.  If she ever loses it I don't know what would happen to us.

Good luck and God bless.

Can I ask you which autoimmune disorder you suffer from? I have a nasty one myself and have always wondered if it kept me from working (which it sort of already should), could I receive disability benefits?

No need to answer if it is too private for you, but it'd be very informative and helpful to hear your experiences there.

My doctor thinks its one of these: LINK.  Probably the one now called TRAPS, but which used to be called Familial Hibernian Fever.

Do you mind sharing the legal reasoning behind the denial of your benefits? My condition, lupus,  has flare ups and times without bad symptoms, but work stress brings about flare ups. If I don't work, I tend not to be sick, and if I do, I have flare ups. Problem is paying the bills while not getting sick. It's a catch-22 really, and if I thought I had a chance at disability, it may be my best option out of an annoying (and potentially life-threatening) cycle..

Given my own situation I'm sorry I can't be of any help Refinish, I can only hope that enough people become aware of what is happening and those who can help you will be able to do so. I always look forward to and value your comments here and look forward to many many more.

in memory of the fun I had dishing the Oscars with you a couple of months ago... :)

Have you been in touch with the Texas Kaos group? Maybe one of them has a room for rent at a reasonable price, or in exchange for graphics work (you're such a gifted graphic artist!)?

Blessings and peace to you, today and always...

Refinish69 is one of our frontpagers, and also does our TK podcast.

R69 is sorting things through, but for a short time he'll be staying with me.
