Obama's Republican Friends

by BooMan

It's only fair. Obama has been going around telling everyone how bipartisan he is and how, when he's president, he's going to unite the country and all that. So, someone finally asked him who these mythic Republicans are that he is going to work with.

"On foreign policy I've worked very closely with Dick Lugar," Obama said. "I consider him one of my best friends in the Senate. He's someone I would actively seek counsel and advice from when it came to foreign policy."

"Senator Warner is another example of somebody with great wisdom, although I don't always agree with him on every issue," Obama said.

Lugar and Warner have their considerable faults...no doubt. But you have to work with someone. Obama has served under Lugar on the Foreign Relations Committee. It's a good thing that they respect each other. Warner is probably going to retire, but he's a good resource even if he is almost always wrong. In the field of corrupt and crazy Republicans, these two are fairly solid. However...

"I would also seek out people like Tom Coburn, who is probably the most conservative member of the U.S. Senate. He has become a friend of mine."

There's no accounting for taste.

Remember, he led the charge against the Bridge to Nowhere.

On EVERYTHING else he's bat-shit insane. But if Obama wants to work with him on earmarks, that's fine.

Wow, the Great Orange Satan shows his face at the Frog Pond! :P

I do agree; I think this is probably what Obama should have mentioned when making this statement.

Truely this must be a monumental occasion.  Orange as it turns out is the color picked for armbands use to signify unity with this.

The truthers have also heckled Obama with great success and these are readily available via youtube as are Kos' alledged CIA connections on the Illuminati watch sites.

Three whole names. Impressive!

Coburn is certainly a wingnut's wingnut, but he and Obama did cosponsor the Federal Spending Transparency bill. Coburn is a bi-partisan foe of pork and earmarks.

I can see where such a friendship is possible. In olden times (I'm 53 so we're talking pre-Reagan here) there used to be many genuine across-the-aisle friendships. Coburn is looney-tunes on most issues, and I am embarrassed to be represented by him, but I think he's an honest wingnut. He isn't pandering to special interests, or triangulating, or being a BushCo robot - he really, truly believes the things he says. Thus, Obama may have found that he can have honest discussions with him in a way one couldn't with (for example) our other horrid senator, Inhofe.

Oh, and Andrew Rice is gonna take Inhofe down. You heard it here first!

They are ALL tapdancing to the tune of politics and The Grand Old Flag.

I have seen this program before.

The truth tellers get the shaft. (Kucinich, a few others.)

The losers lose. (Edwards, a few others.)

And the best dancers on the show compete for the final prize.

Dancing With The Stars

Winning doesn't mean that they are the best dancers in the history of the world.

Just the best ones on whom we are going to be allowed to vote THIS season.

What most affects the final tally?

Which style of dancing people most enjoy.

Bet on it.

So it goes.

And the dance continues.

Just as it always has.

P.S. Nice sig, Joe.

VERY nice sig.

I have ALWAYS liked their beans.
