Good job.

Wow BooMan.  That's all I can say.  Just wow.  Even though this was shot on the other side of my state, I know these people.  They are family, neighbors, local business people, government employees.  They are "everyman" in a wide variety of places around here.

But it is still jarring, physically and psychologically jarring, when you hear words like this come out of people's mouths.

I don't know why, but it still stuns me when I hear stuff like this in the United States.  It makes me nauseous.  We have so, so far to go.

Right wing McVeigh style terrorism is going to escalate exponentially when Obama wins.

Let's hope the Secret Service and FBI are up to the challenge.

I fear you are correct.  I hope and pray you are wrong.  And the Secret Service and FBI had better start earning their pay.

Hi Booman (and everyone else).  Someone ran ito a power pole last night and we lost all -- well -- power.  I'm at the Library, but since they tell me that power won't be restored until later today I'm more or less an absentee today.  I don't have a laptop so wifi isn't an option.

But it's a slow day right. Something about a debate tonight I hear . . . but who watches those?

LOL

except MSNBC eulogizing Nancy Reagan even though she's no where close to dead (she has a hairline hip fracture that won't require surgery).

well here's a counter: A Republican consultant's focus group in an upper-Midwestern state

Ben Smith, Politico, gets an email:

Voting for Obama anyway

I just got an astounding e-mail from a Republican consultant I know well. He's a guy who's always thought Obama had a "glass jaw," and was always among those agitating for hitting Obama harder.

Recently, he conducted a focus group in an upper-Midwestern state, showing them the kind of ad he thought would work: A no-holds-barred attack, cut for an independent group, which hasn't aired.

I'm just going to reprint his amazed e-mail about the focus group:

Reagan Dems and Independents. Call them blue-collar plus. Slightly more Target than Walmart.

Yes, the spot worked. Yes, they believed the charges against Obama. Yes, they actually think he's too liberal, consorts with bad people and WON'T BE A GOOD PRESIDENT...but they STILL don't give a f***. They said right out, "He won't do anything better than McCain" but they're STILL voting for Obama.

The two most unreal moments of my professional life of watching focus groups:

54 year-old white male, voted Kerry '04, Bush '00, Dole '96, hunter, NASCAR fan...hard for Obama said: "I'm gonna hate him the minute I vote for him. He's gonna be a bad president. But I won't ever vote for another god-damn Republican. I want the government to take over all of Wall Street and bankers and the car companies and Wal-Mart run this county like we used to when Reagan was President."

The next was a woman, late 50s, Democrat but strongly pro-life. Loved B. and H. Clinton, loved Bush in 2000. "Well, I don't know much about this terrorist group Barack used to be in with that Weather guy but I'm sick of paying for health insurance at work and that's why I'm supporting Barack."

I felt like I was taking crazy pills.  I sat on the other side of the glass and realized...this really is the Apocalypse. The Seventh Seal is broken and its time for eight years of pure, delicious crazy....

But McCain said they were.

It seems to work the same way with McCain as is does with UFO's.  Don't you find it odd that when an alien powered craft decides to visit our planet, there never seems to be anyone around with a real high quality video camera?  These objects sometimes float around for hours yet all we get is a little shaky dot moving around on a piece of grainy video.  It's no different with McCain.  What's the problem? Can't the Republican base afford some kind of recording device to prove, once and for all, their allegations?  I mean, how hard can it be to catch something like this on tape?  Hell, you can get a video camera for a couple hundred bucks?  Wouldn't you think that some GOP lackey would record something nasty, even if it was purely by accident?

Don't you think?.....huh???.....huh???

That is, unless there is no there...there.

Watching that video and hearing the ignorant, hateful comments come out of those people's mouths makes ME violent. If I were the one filming that rush of stupidity, I'm afraid I'd want to toss the camera aside and just shake the everlivin' shit out of them.

I can only hope that their numbers are small enough to render them impotent in the election. Or that they are just too fucking stupid to find the polls. Scary.

I scare myself with the same thoughts.  I've been asked to be a poll watcher. Don't know if I trust myself.

Many years ago, somewhere in the midwest, I got lost traveling.
I started asking for directions, but could not grasp the absurdity of the directions I was being given. Soon a security patrol unit stopped me & a fellow traveler, & wanted to know how we`d entered the grounds of the hospital.
It appears, we`d inadvertently entered a mental facility without realizing it. The people in the video are those same people. I remember them & how they looked perfectly normal, & was shocked to find out there were seriously deranged. This is a true story.
The video takes me back in time.

Sadly, very few people in Ohio will see this. This needs to run on "regular" local stations.  I don't really watch t.v., so maybe stations are running clips from these rallies.

There could be some local stations I am not aware of that are talking about this, but I have my doubts.  If a local station did a report such as this one, you could bet there would be serious repercussions.  And if they did a report highlighting behaviors it would be within the context of "how nasty this campaign has become on both sides".  Without providing actual proof that there is any equivalence, of course.

Only a local station with a death wish would actually air footage even remotely similar to this one.  It would be professional suicide.  The wrath of the Republican base, very strong is many areas, would be have catastrophic consequences for them.

Leave it to Al Jazeera to get the story and leave it to CNN to capitulate to the McCain campaign.

So tell me, which one is embracing their duty as the press?
