Deep Thought

When your whole campaign is all about insulting your opponent and his supporters it just might be a sign that you have no good reason why people should vote for you.

Well McCain did sound a lot like Don Rickles at that Al Smith dinner the other night.  Only more bitter.

i didn't decide to run for president to start a national crusade for the political reforms i believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. in truth, i wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president. ... in truth, i'd had the ambition for a long time.

Barack Obama lines up a cabinet of stars as John McCain struggles on

The Democrat may recruit some big names, including Republicans, to see America through the crisis

With the economy on the brink of recession and the country in the midst of two foreign wars, Barack Obama is considering appointing a cabinet of stars to steer America through potentially its worst crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s if he wins the presidency on November 4.

Obama has a well-regarded, close-knit team of domestic and foreign policy advisers who would follow him into the White House and key administration posts. But he is also being urged to make some high-profile appointments who would command the confidence of the country at such a troubled time.

"It's important to send a signal," an Obama adviser said. "With a comparatively new person in office and the awful mess we're in, these appointments are going to resonate around the world." Obama, 47, has been warning his supporters that the election is not over yet. "Don't underestimate our ability to screw it up," he said last week. But should Obama win, he will not be short of big names to choose for his administration.

"Obama has a well-regarded, close-knit team...foreign policy advisers"

Yeah - if you're in love with the empire, you'll love them.

Is there anything that meets your approval? Anything

Easy to criticize. Without standing earth on a new axis, how would you govern or rearrange the order of the universe?

Given the nature of man, it's beyond human.

A lot of things meet with my approval. A foreign policy team with a history of disregard for brown-skinned humans on the other side of the earth in the interest of promoting empire does not meet with my approval.

One of Obama's criticisms of the Iraq "war" has been that it hampered the United States' ability to project its power globally. His foreign policy team reflects that attitude. Last time I checked, in this "land of the free" I am not obligated to accept that, nor am I obligated to remain silent about it.

A girlfriend called today. First words out of her mouth...

Since I don't live in ' Real Virginia', do I have to pay 'Real Virginia' taxes?

I think my brother and SIL can stop subsidizing the rest of the Commonwealth since they don't belong.

Look, I know that sentiment exists, but I can't believe she'd so stupid as to insult the people you want to vote for you--on a live broadcast?

You know, there's a Tidewater area where a lot of Democrats live--not everyone in the Atlantic Fleet are officers. Are they not "real" Virginians?

There are a fair number of Democrats in Southwestern Virginia--many of whom remember what party fucked them when they needed more help when their plants closed and moved to Mexico. Are they not "real" Virginians?

There are also a fair number of Democrats in the Richmond area--they don't all worship Robert E. Lee. Are they not "real" Virginians?

What a stupid, anorexic twit. I am just tired of this type of rhetoric.

BTW, we have plenty of family and friends in the "real" Virginia, too who can't WAIT to vote for Barack Obama--and they don't live in NOVA. Idiot.

No need to look far ... it's George W. Bush whose own Republican free trade policy and unregulated banks have created havoc on America's economy and financial system. The single option left was to nationalize a number of banks and do hand-outs to the haves of Wall Street. Bush now seeking advise from the most socalist state of Europe: president Sarkozy of France and EU commisioner Barroso from a socialist Portugal.

This entire debate must sound idiotic across the pond, doesn't it?
