Quote of the Day

"If you're Senator Obama and you're making the case, as some of the people are, that this is the next revolutionary election since 1980, you'd be rooting for the Phillies, because the first and last time that they won the World Series was in 1980. So if you want to complete the circle of history, then the Democrats should be rooting for the Philadelphia Phillies."

-- Craig Shirley, GOP consultant.

This thought occurred to me too.  As an ex-Philadelphian, it sounds like a good way to bracket the Reagan Era to me!

Ecological collapse is already happening. Your resentment of the word doesn't change the fact that it is occurring.

Those Obama/Phillies pins will be valuable someday.. keep them in good condition!

Since Obama is the Devil, and the Christians helped drop the 'Devil' from the name Devil Rays, doesn't God want Tampa to win, and McCain?

their just trying swing Florida red...but being a Royals Fan, I have never seen a real baseball team in a looooong time, so long I forgot there was baseball in October.

Dammit! I thought I was the genius who thought of this. Shoulda posted my presidents-vs-baseball thread last night when I thought of it.

There's a lot more fun random facts when you compare world series winners with presidential election winners in the same year.

Well, the big-ass html table seems a bit much for the frog pond's technical standards, but here it is in orange.

I'm rooting for the Phillies, but for the wrong reasons, I suppose.  When they beat the Sox, they earned my undying enmity.

Speaking of the Phillies, I was sitting in the bleachers in Montreal when Mike Schmidt hit the homer that knocked the Expos out of the series.  Pete Rose was the winning run.  He beat out a scratch single to set up the play.  It was a great inning.  Broke my heart.
