Saxby Chambliss, Dirty Old Man

by CabinGirl
Sun Nov 30th, 2008 at 09:32:39 AM EST

What the heck is Saxby Chambliss doing in this ad (watch until the very end)? (You might want to watch it with the sound turned down...) How could they air this? Or is the GOP so demented they don't even notice what's going on in their little family photo-op?

H/t to brendan.

Display:
That's unconsciously pervy like he really didn't realize what he was doing. But, but, but... the camera, lights and sound operators -- were they comatose? Didn't anyone say, let's shoot that again? Did Saxby refuse to do more than one take? No one had the nerve to tell him what he'd done? Then, there's the editor and the someone who signed off on this ad. None of them noticed? Bee-zaar!

exactly.  how could they air that?

...but a full-on grab-and-grope of her breasts.

Child abuse.

Sheesh! :<

Yes, I realize that patriarchs OWN their women's bodies, especially in the South, but a producer ought to have been more aware and cautioned against showing it so blatantly.

Isn't there some child's protective services in the state?  Somebody who can effectively protest this tomorrow?

You know, if she were a infant/toddler, it probably wouldn't looks so awful.  After all, you just hold them in the middle, because there's nowhere else to hold them.  But she's too big for that.

People who make those commercials are conscious of everything going on in the picture, the symbolism of every object in the background, etc.  I can't believe they wold have looked at the footage and NOT noticed.  I mean, did they have the little squeeze in the video script?

I wonder what he did on the discarded footage if this was the best they could do...

OMG, this is funny.

I noticed in the last few frames - the girl seems to  notice grandpa is groping her... She has this kind of smirk as if to say WTF?

This is a sick ad from a sick candidate from a sick political party.  What is really disturbing is the implication that this is acceptable behavior on the part of everybody involved from the producers of the ad to the people being filmed.

I am curious what the reaction will be of the so called evangelicals.  Will they label this abusive behavior as objectionable?

I doubt it. Have you noticed that while they're highly judgmental of others sexuality they're clueless about their own? Fundamentalist beliefs with repression of normal sexuality allows it to be expressed in all kinds of inappropriate ways -- witness the sex scandals among conservative clergy and congressional members. And then there's the problem of not respecting women or their bodies. Men are in charge; they determine what is acceptable behavior toward women whether it's an issue of touching, contraception or abortion. And most women raised in that milieu simply accept that that's the way the world is supposed to work.

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts - Bertrand Russell

Nah. Just another good fundy man exercising his prerogatives as a God-appointed patriarch. And if things don't quite work out, we will learn that he was just in the throes of being born yet again.

You people are the sick ones, not him. It is absolutely absurd to assume that he was touching his own daughter (or grand daughter?) for sexual gratification in a Christmas TV commercial, or that he would do that at all for that matter. All of you people should be ashamed of yourselves for thinking so. The only perversion going on here exists in the minds of those of you making these ridiculous comments. The child is 11 or 12 years old max; she doesn't even have breasts yet and for that matter his hand was on the top of her stomach anyway. I hold my 7 year old daughter like that all the time.. am I a pedophile? I think not. It's just so, so sad that you ignorant individuals find it necessary to trash someone's character just because you obviously dislike him. If what you complete idiots were saying was true, don't you think the director, producer, camera man or any one of the umpteen crew members or other members of the family that were there would have pointed it out? Come on people, smarten up and do something positive for this world instead of being ignorant!

As we learned with Bristol Palin, the knocked-up teen, it's OK if the GOP is doing it.  So for granda to cop a feel of his 13yo granddaughter in a campaign commercial is a selling point!

The GOP wants people like him in power, look at how they cheered for Vitter when he came into the Senate after buying a prostitute, or Craig after he was caught trying to have sex with other men.  See, it's OK to do everything the GOP is against ONLY if you are one of them.  If you don't vote for the GOP, then if you do what they do, you are bad (Clinton=bad).

So grandpa feeling up his own pubescent granddaughter appeals to both the pedophile AND incest wings of the GOP.  It's exactly what the Republican electorate wishes they could get away with doing. And Chambliss knows this, it's probably even in the script.  In fact, I'll go one further, they probably did a whole lot of takes to get that moment just right!

Please remain stationary to facilitate targeting.

Comrade Rutherford, if your assessment is correct, then this culture has gone past the point of redemption and will decay and crumble in swift order.  Hopefully, the oversight was unintentional and our civilization is merely bad; not abominable, gruesome but not grotesque, horrible not horrific.

You hold your kid like that, right in the middle, hand on the tummy or chest and then suddenly without much warning they hit puberty and you have to consciously avoid that area with girls.  How old is she?...looks like 11 or 12 but I can't tell.  I think it was a reflex type hug from Grandpa, but they really should have re-shot it.

That young girl, is going to be overwhelmed by taunts from classmates once this gets around. The braces tell me she's just coming into her own young life, probably a budding teenager and this will be cruel.
