Leaving the ranch, and not for Paraguay:

DALLAS (AP) -- President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush have bought a home among business leaders and prominent Republican donors in an affluent North Dallas neighborhood, where they will live after the president leaves office in January.
Laura Bush's press secretary, Sally McDonough, said Thursday that the Bushes purchased a home in the Preston Hollow area, where some of the state's wealthiest residents live in some of its most expensive houses.
"We picked out a house, but we don't have occupancy of it. So as soon as we do, we'll announce exactly where it is," Mrs. Bush told NBC News on Thursday. "We're looking forward to that."
While the White House has declined to disclose the address, local property records indicate that Robert McCleskey, a Bush family friend from Midland who has done accounting work for the family, recently bought an 8,500-square-foot house with a market value of $2.1 million on a cul-de-sac with about a half-dozen homes.
McCleskey is listed as a trustee on the ranch-style brick house on Daria Place, and he said the house was bought Oct. 1. He said he could not say for whom the home was purchased.
Property records list other homeowners in the neighborhood as Tom Hicks, owner of the Texas Rangers who has a $32.3 million mansion adjacent to the cul-de-sac, billionaire T. Boone Pickens and Republican donor Harold Simmons.
"If he moves next door, we'd love it," Hicks said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "The secret service would make the neighborhood safer!"

Tom Hicks made him his fortune and now he can make sure he cuts his grass. They'll probably start plotting a coup on the cul-de-sac. They're all treasonous bastards. And Crawford was just a prop.

Are property values so depressed in Dallas that $2 million will get you an 8000 square foot home? Maybe this whole financial crisis was really a well-crafted plan by the Bushes to ensure they could afford a nice home after 8 years.

I guess even Paraguay decided they couldn't accept him. I suspect Bush's security people told Dubya that security in Paraguay couldn't be guaranteed. Just remember Anastasio Somoza after his flight from Nicaragua.

Too bad Tony Blair fell from grace, or England might have welcomed Bush with flowers and candy. I suppose now that he's out of power, poor Tony no longer has a place reserved for him in Bush's rectum. Mr. Howard of Canada either, looks like. Bush's ass will be a very lonely place.

howard was the australian pm, who ~~got his ass handed to him~~ was soundly defeated last year by kevin rudd last year. in fact, he also lost his own seat in parliament, becoming only the second pm in australian history to do so.

harper is the canadian pm, and he's on the way out too. just yesterday, in an unprecedented move, the gov. gen. suspended the canadian parliament to avoid a confidence vote that would have toppled his government.

as a commentator on the cbc news site noted:

"Someone...called Harper a coward. This is wrong.

It takes a huge amount of faith and courage to stare a nation in the face and destroy 141 years of Democratic tradation[sic], for the sake of saving his job."

harper's a BushCo™ clone.

WTF? I know it was probably a "joke" but come on - you live in the most expensive neighborhood in the freaking state. Most of your neighbors are multimillionaires if not billionaires. Every one of them probably has incredibly expensive security systems with security firms on retainer if not their own in-house security people. The story doesn't say whether it's a "gated" community or not, but I wouldn't be surprised.

How much fucking "safer" do you need to be? Do you need to hire someone to wipe your ass for you for fear of getting a papercut from the toilet paper?

(Not to mention that having a former President that's hated by a good chunk of the world living in my neighborhood would make me consider myself a bit less safe, no matter how many surface to air missiles they planted in his back yard.)

There's nobody on earth more scared and paranoid than the undeserving rich. They can never, ever, be safe enough and can never really trust anyone. In that sense, at least, sociopathy does not pay.

I guess their amazingly open contempt for Americans is going to continue right to the end. Bush is basically saying "The "ranch" did what it was supposed to and now I can finally dump it and live like the elitist billionaire I really am. Americans are such saps."

I hope Bush and his new neighbors all have big pools -- I understand leeches need a lot of water.

A gate at the top of the driveway affords some privacy to the four-bedroom house, which was built in 1959 and has a wide front yard and dark shutters.

No mention of much acreage with the property; they'll probably sell Golf Cart One on eBay. Which begs the question: what will Dubya do for fun? Piss in Pickens' pool at parties?

I do note, however, the direct jump, in Bush's statement, from seeing the property to occupancy. Issues of purchase simply don't exist. We want it = we own it. That's Bush's America -- the nation worth all sacrifice.
