Obama Gaining Strength in NJ

by BooMan

Somehow, the full on attack of Barack Obama doesn't seem to be doing what it was supposed to do.

TRENTON, N.J. - Support among New Jersey Democrats in the presidential race appears to be shifting to Barack Obama.

A Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey poll finds 45 percent of the Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents surveyed would like to see Obama get the party's nomination compared to 38 percent for Hillary Clinton.

Clinton beat Obama in the state's Democratic primary in February by a 10-point margin.

Nearly 40 percent of the Democrats polled say the continuing battle between the presidential candidates will damage the party's chances in November.

Shouldn't the opposite be happening?

In NH, TX, OH even here in CA, I hear people bemoaning the fact that they voted for Clinton.  It's a shame, but if they had taken the time to get educated before voting, there wouldn't be any of this silliness.

I have friends and family members who supported Clinton early on, who are now FIRMLY in the Obama camp.

So who the hell are all of these Clinton supporters saying they'll never vote for Obama against McCain (at a much higher rate than Obama's supporters not backing Hillary against McCain)?
by RollaMO on Wed Apr 30th, 2008 at 04:17:56 PM EST
fish stinks from the head down. Clinton can pretend all she wants. there's no way, deep in the sewers, that she'll help the healing for November.

well...if this contest has proven anything, it's that conventional wisdom is not in control of the compass needle.

Maybe it's Obama's comments on high speed rail that are helping! ;-)

The irony is with the gas prices what they are, we should be expanding rail service. One of the things I have been talking bout for awhile is high speed rail connecting all of these Midwest cities - Indianapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, St. Louis. They are not that far away from each other. Because of how big of a hassle airlines are now. It takes you just about as much time if you had high speed rail to go the airport, park, take your shoes off.

This is something that we should be talking about a lot more. We are going to be having a lot of conversations this summer about gas prices. And it is a perfect time to start talk about why we don't have better rail service. We are the only advanced country in the world that doesn't have high speed rail. We just don't have it. And it works on the Northeast corridor. They would rather go from New York to Washington by train than they would by plane. It is a lot more reliable and it is a good way for us to start reducing how much gas we are using. It is a good story to tell.

Darn, I was hoping to hear more about this train program. Like, when is it coming to Seattle? And San Francisco, and Portland and Los Angeles and San Diego and Salt Lake and Denver and Albuquerque and Billings and all up and down the Eastern seaboard.

Although I gotta admit, I like this "elitist" candidate who has a campaign lunch from Subway.
