I Thought the Republicans Were Gonna Change

by BooMan
Thu May 15th, 2008 at 05:16:38 PM EST

As far I can tell, the Republicans are now officially suicidal. Voting against funding wars they support and voting against timelines that Americans support, and voting against a GI Bill for the soldiers that is just unconscionable.

Checked in on Rush today. He officially is backing Obama because given the choice of Obama screwing up the country or McCain (with the help of a Democratic Congress) screwing up the country (Jimmy Carter II), he'd rather it be Obama so he gets the blame.

Uh, yeah.  The Republicans are making it easy.

But . . .

what happens this fall when we start getting some 9/11 prosecutions, when we start hearing chatter about impending terrorist attacks, when we hear about how Iran is an existential threat that must be dealt with, etc?

The Republicans hold a very effective trump card.

Just put your GOP hat on for a second and think how you could sweep out all this negative news with a well timed temporary "surge" using the time-tested GOP trump card.

It is coming.  I don't think there can be any doubt.  If everyone is so awestruck and disbelieving at the lengths which Hillary Clinton has gone in her efforts to stay relevant in her fight against Obama, wait until we see the throes of desperation which will be trotted out by the Republicans over the next six months.  They will not go quietly.  They will sacrifice anyone and anything in an attempt to mitigate the coming losses.
The top echelons of the party know that they will have to pull the biggest matzo ball they can out of their bag of tricks.

Nothing will be off the table for them.  NOTHING!

You can bet on it.

And what is truly dangerous is that Bush may think he's doing the right thing and making the tough choices that a lesser President wouldn't have the courage to make.  An attack on Iran, for instance, might be too tempting for Bush to pass up.  If he thinks it's the only way to save the GOP in the election then we are in deep doo doo.

What's the over/under on when OBL's head pops up on a pike? I think October 25th should be the median point if Bush is trying to win the election for his party, December 21st if he says, "Phuqm - it's all about my legacy."

Ergo, 12/21/2008 is the date that I say Osama's head will show up on a pike. I'd say it's about 50/50 as to whether or not that will be literally on a pike...

The Underground Railroad

Imagine the pomp and ceremony of having George W. Bush deliver OBL's head to John McCain at the Republican National Convention.

He could march up the aisle with the Republican flag in one hand and a pike with OBL's head on it on in the other.  It can be the ceremonial passing of the flag and pike.

The lights dim . . ..

An announcer with a deep voice intones, "Ladies and Gentlemen, you anointed him leader of the Grand Old Party, and by the grace of God he became Commander in Chief.  He answered the call.  He swore we would bring the evildoers to justice.  He swore he would smoke the bad guys out of their caves.  He said he would get Osama bin Laden dead or alive.  Well.  Ladies and Gentlemen . . . .

I give you THE PRESIDENT!  (enter POTUS down the middle aisle of the convention hall with the spotlights on him, carrying sticks in both hands)

And he's brought Osama bin Laden to JUSTICE!  (All the large televisions in the hall have close-up shots of the pike with OBL's distinctive head on it)

The confetti is flying . . .

The Republicans are getting boners in their Zubazes . . .

I haven't quite figured out how I would script the rest.

It really is a fashion crime that probably rises to a high crime and misdemeanor.

But perfect pants for spectator sports like watching a gladiator like Bushus Titus bring out the head of the enemy.

Be sure to watch Hardball.  Chris Matthews absolutely decimates talk radio host Kevin James who compared Obama to Neville Chamberlain....Tweety kept asking him what Chamberlain did that was so bad and the guy obviously didn't know, but kept on saying "he was an appeaser...the president said he was an appeaser"....Matthews was tough as shit with this guy and didn't let up, then finally told him he that if he's going to talk about history he ought to know what the hell he's talking about
by Second Nature (denn1214 at gmail) on Thu May 15th, 2008 at 07:34:52 PM EST
That was a jaw dropper.
What an idiot! Ignorant idiot. And he kept digging, even after Mark Green suggested it was time to stop.

It also gave Tweety the opportunity to remind everyone that the WH Press Secretary did not know about the Cuban missile crisis.

That was gratifying to watch, and Matthews does that whole thing he does -- where he's taking somebody completely apart, leaving them as little dignity as possible -- better than anybody else, I think. He's good for at least that much.

Tweety does know a good bit of political history, too.  Credit to him on that.

Green's why Air America is going downhill so rapidly. He's a mealy-mouthed compromiser/peacemaker. Talks the talk, but doesn't walk the walk. AAR was excellent for about 2 years, got a bit rocky, and now is a skeleton of what it was, thanks to Green's weakness. He's right up there with Nancy Pelosi.

You can check this video and just be stunned.  Imagine if Matthews had done that back in '02 and '03 leading up to war.  "Sunny nobility" my ass.

Imagine if Matthews had done that back in '02 and '03 leading up to war

Amen!  But he was too busy riding that bandwagon to war with all his other pundit friends and ridiculing all the Dems and the dumb fucking hippies who were too big a pansies to support the manly war thing.  Yes, it's great when he does something like the takedown on this dickhead Kevin James.  But it has little to no value for the country at this point, apart from the entertainment factor.

You blew it Chris Matthews.  You missed your chance.  Thanks a hell of a lot.  It's real easy to be brave now, ain't it Chris?  When the codpiece has a 70% disapproval rating.

Where the hell were your big balls when it really mattered?
