Election Thread III

Tue May 6th, 2008 at 11:03:48 PM EST

Hillary Clinton has a current lead of 39,000 in Indiana.

Here's the outstanding vote.

3% in Indianapolis. That's roughly 18,000 votes. At 67%-33% Obama, it should break 12,000-6,000. That puts her lead at about 33,000.

11% in Hamilton County. That's about 4,500 votes. At 60%-40% Obama, it should break 2,700-1,800. That puts her lead at roughly 32,000.

57% of Monroe County (Indiana U.). That's about 12,000 votes. At 66%-34% Obama, it should break about 8,000-4,000. That puts her lead at 28,000.

I think turnout in Lake County will be about 125,000. Here's how that translates:

Lake County, 125,000 votes

Obama 70%: Obama 87500, Clinton 37500= 50,000
Obama 67%: Obama 83750, Clinton 41250= 42,500
Obama 64%: Obama 80000 Clinton 45000= 35,000
Obama 61%: Obama 76250 Clinton 48750= 27,500

If Obama can win Lake County with about 64% of the vote, he will win Indiana. At 61%, it's a tie.

Now is the time to help the Clinton supporters back off the ledge and back to reality. Extend a hand. They will be disoriented at first. Help them.

Actually - I recommend keeping our celebrations humble, and giving them a chance to grieve. It's a bit too soon to reach out just yet. But in a week, or maybe even a few days, some will reach for our hands.

Don't want to rain on a parade.  Obama has clinched it yet again.

Look for Indiana to get closer, but not to overtake the witch.

The mayor of Hammond just said she won that town.  I am shocked, but maybe the hispanic vote helped. Guarentee the Rush vote did.

Anyhoo, the mayor of Hammond is a jag.  He protested the students from Gary were let out of school to vote.

Of course if they were white, he would have driven them to the polls.

Gary Mayor Predicts Possible Indiana Shocker

Updated 10:55 p.m.
By Alec MacGillis

As the fate of a nailbiter Indiana primary -- and possibly the course of the Democratic race -- hung on his city, Gary Mayor Rudy Clay said just now that it might take a while yet to finish counting the vote in Lake County, which includes Gary, and said that his city had turned out so overwhelmingly for Barack Obama that it might just be enough to close the gap with Hillary Rodham Clinton.

From the WashPost...!

Russert says there are 225,000 votes outstanding.

If turnout is that high in Lake, he will win easily.

Tomorrow ought to be interesting.  I expect Obama will get a good number of SD's, and we will hear some really, really creative spinning from team Clinton about how the race is still on.
by eagleye on Tue May 6th, 2008 at 11:11:55 PM EST
Well, Lanny Davis is already telling some good ones. He just said that a poll says that Obama is tied with McCain in Mass and that is why HRC should be the nominee.

I wonder if they even believe their own misleading lies.

wouldn't be nice if Gary flip it to Obama?

Chuck Todd just indirectly said that the Gary, Indiana Mayor might have had some shady counting wrong if Obama wins.

That was paraphrasing but I mean come on.

Twice in one night Matthews made sense and in less than an hour?  His medication must be either kicking in or wearing off.  That was awesome that he said something about it.  Of course, it would have been better if he had said it earlier when the people in IN, NC, OH, and PA could have heard him.

First Totals from Lake County

158 precincts out of 561 reporting.

Half of Gary, half of Merrillville and portion of Munster primarily make up these numbers:

Obama 27,991
Clinton   9,470

Keep this up he wins the state, No?

yes.  Unless there are pro-Hillary precincts somewhere in Lake, she is going to lose another 25,000-40,000 votes out of Lake, and another 2-3,000 out of Bloomington.

why, not doing all the Tvs, wall to wall, as she did right after PA?

She should schedule a press conference to announce her departure.  She declared North Carolina was the game-changer.

Seems to be the only person who's actually watched the race and didn't think of Clinton as a friend, but as a subject of her work.  She said, "Clinton hasn't had a rationale for staying in the race that wasn't deranged, that didn't rely on her moving the goalposts."
