Both Obama & McSame pick women to be VP nominees.

Oh gawd.  If that happens I'll make AG happy and turn off my television forever.

Can't you just imagine the "news?"  Then I'll predict a manufactured feud between the wives and the VP candidates.

Lord have mercy!

My prediction: in the event that McCain gets his wish and has a town-hall style debate vs. Obama, we're going to find out that he's not nearly as effective in that format  when the audience isn't necessarily friendly.

I predict that I will be eating something similar to this, now that you've mentioned mojo

Camarones al mojo de ajo

1 cup butter (2 sticks) no substitutions
1/2 pound crimini mushrooms, quartered
2 medium sweet onions, halved and sliced
8 cloves garlic, minced
Chile powder and cumin
2 pounds 41/50 or larger shrimp, peeled and deveined
10 flour tortillas

Melt butter in large sauté pan. Add in mushrooms, onions and garlic. When onions are translucent, add shrimp. Take off heat when shrimp are opaque. Season with salt, pepper, chili powder and cumin to taste.

Serve with spanish rice, refried beans, and warm tortillas. Garnish with guacamole and sour cream.
Serves 4.

That sounds pretty good, but where's the al pastor recipe?
by CabinGirl on Thu Jun 12th, 2008 at 04:19:17 PM EST
[ Parent ]
Manny's off-the-cuff al-pastor marinade

5 dried ancho chiles
5 dried guajillo chiles
5 dried california/anaheim chiles
1 cup of white vinegar
1/2 bulb of garlic
5 cloves, ground
2 tbsp of Mexican oregano
2 tbsp of cumin
2 tbsp of salt, or to taste
1 tsp of ground coriander

De-stem and de-seed the chiles (wear gloves!) and put them in a soup pot with enough water to cover them, plus the cup of vinegar.  Let it boil for 20-30 minutes, until they are soft.  After that, let it cool and then tranfer the chiles with 1/2 the liquid to the blender along with the garlic, oregano, cumin, cloves, coriander and salt to taste.  Blend it completely until it's a paste, you may need to add more of the liquid from earlier depending on your blender size.

The good thing about it is that it can be frozen in small packages to be taken out at any time.  You just brush the marinade on pork, chicken, beef, whatever - let it sit for a couple of hours in the fridge, then grill/broil/saute/put on the sidewalk in AZ during the summer.

You can find the chiles at most grocery stores in the "Hispanic" section, if there is one - or one of the small tienditas that are bound to be in the neighborhoods that we've reconquered for Aztlán

O:-)

DEATH BY CHOCOLATE CAKE

1/4 c. cocoa
1 1/4 c. powdered sugar
5 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
1 quart good vanilla ice cream

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift cocoa and sugar together. Separate the eggs; put the yolks and vanilla in a large bowl and beat very well until thick.

In another bowl beat the egg whites until foamy; add salt and continue beating until soft peaks are formed. Fold the cocoa and sugar into the whites, then gently fold the egg white mixture into the beaten yolks. Thoroughly butter a 10"x15" cookie sheet and line it with wax paper. Spread the batter evenly in the pan; bake 18 to 20 minutes, until toothpick comes out clean. Sprinkle a clean tea towel with powdered sugar and turn cake out onto it. Remove wax paper and trim off crispy edges, if any. Roll the cake in the towel from the long end and let it rest 1 to 2 minutes. Unroll and let it rest again for a few minutes, then roll it up again and allow it to cool completely.

Set ice cream out to soften. Unroll the cooled cake; spread evenly with ice cream and roll it back up (without the tea towel). Dust the top with powdered sugar. Keep it in the freezer until ready to serve. When ready, cut the cake and serve it with Killer Chocolate Sauce.

KILLER CHOCOLATE SAUCE:

3 tbsp. unsalted butter
4 oz. unsweetened chocolate
2/3 c. boiling water
1 1/2 c. sugar
7 tbsp. corn syrup
1 tsp. vanilla

Melt the butter and chocolate in a heavy saucepan over low heat; add boiling water and stir well. Mix in the sugar and corn syrup, until sauce is smooth. Boil the sauce, without stirring for 10 minutes; remove from heat; cool 20 minutes, then add the vanilla. Spoon the sauce over the Death by Chocolate Cake.
