WTF? National Press Club to host Larry Sinclair!

by blksista
Thu Jun 12th, 2008 at 05:34:09 PM EST

I can't publish this in the Orange Zone until tomorrow, but here it is:

From Hullaballoo via FireDogLake:

Larry Sinclair is one of the most outrageous anti-Obama smear merchants. So why is the National Press Club hosting him this coming Wednesday? Apparently Jeff Gannon wasn't available.

Sinclair's story about having used cocaine and having sex with Obama in 1999 is not credible. As Stoller says, it's another "whitey" style rumor and we all know how quickly this stuff makes the leap from the right wing smear machine to Sean Hannity to Fox News and then alley-oops its way into the AP.

I kid you not, but sign the petition connected with this travesty at FireDogLake:

A video has been circulating the internet showing a man, Larry Sinclair, speaking to camera making slanderous claims about Senator Barack Obama. These claims are demonstratably false, and don't bear repeating here, or in any venue. Which is why it is shocking that the National Press Club is offering a him a spot on the national stage on June 18.

Please take a moment to ask the National Press Club to check the facts before giving Larry Sinclair a bully pulpit. Also, if you have a moment please consider calling the National Press Club at 202-662-7500, and politely but firmly petition them verbally.

Petition Text:

We call upon you, before giving Larry Sinclair a stage from which to speak to the national press, to check the viability of his story. When the facts prove his story false, you deny him a place at your podium.

Again, call them:

National Press Club
529 14th Street NW
Washington, DC 20045

Front Desk
202-662-7500

What kind of people are they getting booked into the National Press Club?  First Wright, now Sinclair.  There is a method to this madness.

I'm certainly not surprised but this continues to enforce the idea that the 'press' doesn't know the first meaning of what constitutes news and/or doesn't really give a damn...and haven't for a long time.

One big circle jerk racket as witnessed most recently by the 'media' responding to Scott McClellan remarks that they didn't do their job and ask enough or the right questions leading up to war.  Big surprise-not-that they all pretended to ask the question of themselves seriously and come to the conclusion that hell yeah they did their job and damn fine too according to some. Ego's on parade.

Even at that having this lunatic as speaker is another 'new' low for NPC.

The National Press Club is a joke.  They might as well admit to being nothing more than a carnival side show at this point.

Hello blksista,

You say,

What kind of people are they getting booked into the National Press Club?  First Wright, now Sinclair.  There is a method to this madness.

Why do you have Rev. Wright compared with someone who has obviously gone on a search and destroy mission and who should have no access to legitimate national coverage?

I think that we all need to hear more from people like Wright, not less. He didn't level unfounded and sensational accusations at Obama so much as he defended himself and his church against Obama's transparent political mischaracterizations and denunciations. Something I think that he was obliged to do after being tossed on the trash heap as repayment for nearly 20 years of service and support to Obama and his family.

conference by a Clintonista, Barbara Reynolds.

I think she and others sought to take advantage of the old man and gain an opportunity to embarrass Obama, and to keep whites from voting for him.

I was willing to valorize Wright up to a certain point, but he is a grandstander.  I don't think Obama's responses to Wright meant that he was throwing the black church under the bus.  It probably never occurred to Wright that Reynolds might not just be 'concerned' with the depiction of the black church in the media.  He performed exactly as hoped.

Wright is selling books, and for stupid people, this is considered OK.

Since when are trolls like you, bozo, welcome in civilized company?

super's opinions may not be to your liking but a troll he is not. name calling and your rating is uncalled for, hence my "2".

He's asking for donations for the room rent of $3000. In what context? Is the "Press Club" actually a building with meeting rooms you can rent?

I can't believe they're actually giving this airtime.

Between this and the screen shot of "Baby Mama" underneath Michelle Obama's image on Fox...well, hold on tight.

And have barf bags at the ready.

Can't hear ya, Peach!
