EC Soccer Finals Germany vs Spain 0-1

Spain won their only previous piece of silverware in this competition in 1964 and had not been beyond the quarter-finals of any competition in 24 years, yet Luis Aragonés's men have chosen to use that history as an inspiration rather than a burden. After a strong start from Germany, seeking a fourth title themselves, Spain were the more dangerous side throughout an entertaining final at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion although it took just one goal - in the 33rd minute, courtesy of Torres's pace, perseverance and an unerring finish - to end their long wait.

As an aside ... just happen to fly to Barcelona early Monday morning for a week's holiday. FIESTA BARCA!

I'm happy for you, RF.

I'm sort of in the same situation - my husband is moving out and a year from now, when we sell the house, I'll have to support myself and find some place to live on $10 an hour, or whatever high school graduates make after raising kids for 25 years.

I'm glad to be rid of the cheating bastard, but pissed as hell that I am in this situation.  I know a year is a long time and things will probably start to look better before it is up, it's just hard to see that from here.

Sorry to hear about your lousy situation. I left my first marriage 27 years ago with only an old beat up flatbed truck, my carpenter tools and a backpack. I can relate. Now at least I have a roof over my head, as long as I can make the mortgage payment, cause the bank owns more of the roof than I do. My mom found a very nice subsidized apartment a couple of blocks from me after my dad died and she was just on social security and some modest investments. I suppose places like that are pretty rare though. I've got a feeling you'll be ok. Sending supportive vibes;-)

Good morning Andi, Ask, SN and RF.

I slept late again today.  I was up late with FMom again last night.  She had a bad nose bleed last night for some reason.

RF I like those pictures.

SN I was reading what's going on with you.  When FDad passed away FMom had been a housewife all of her life and still had my two youngest brothers in grade school.  She went out and took the test for state employment and got a job as a receptionist at the health department.  I was thinking about that when I read what's happening to you.  That might be an idea for you.  Anyway, I hope things work out for you.

When we lived in Evansville, Indiana, the city put on a huge fireworks show on a barge in the Ohio river. Eight years of that seems to have exhausted (purposely avoiding "burned up") our need to watch fireworks.

That sounds like fun.

I think we'll be watching the Philly fireworks from someone's roofdeck - hopefully we'll be able to see them.

Good morning CG.

That sounds pretty cool watching them from a roof top.  The last good fireworks show I saw we were so close that when they exploded it was like a bomb went off by you, and you could feel the shock wave from it.

That was the last fireworks show that I went to that I had to fight the crowds and gridlock traffic trying to get out of the park.  The one good thing about that fireworks show was that they had all sorts of arts/crafts and food booths set up during the day.  It was a good all round day.

I think I'm following Andi out the door.  George is starting to whine to go outside, and I hear the rels starting to stir.

Everyone have a good day ahead of you.

Good morning to all the early risers.  Another hot one here and rain is predicted for much of the weekend.  Anybody got an inside barbecue?

Thanks ask. The way the light is always changing and being changed in the woods fascinates me.

I plan too (even though it's rainy). Hope you have a fine time too.

Don't we wish the woods were really lovely like that this morning. I hope the rain gets past us pretty soon.

Is there a parade in town?

It is just a bit dreary, isn't it? No parades that I'm aware of, just the community fireworks at the school football/track field.

There are, however, some interesting hummingbird skirmishes at the feeder this morning between a couple of ruby-throats. Sassy the cat watches, tail twitching furiously.

Watching the next batch of rain approaching, I'm predicting that's going to be one wet, muddy football field.

Yay, no work today! Good morning CabinGirl! Hope you have some fun stuff on the agenda. We're having an evening cookout at my fire station (next door to the community fireworks). Mrs. Dem made homemade cheesecake yesterday. Yum!

Party tonight, party tomorrow, family get-together Sunday.  Cleaning this morning and some cooking...and I need to get the picture for my driver's license taken.  I'm going to try and do that tomorrow with the thought that most people have better things to do than go to the DMV on the Saturday after the fourth of July.

Are you going to be able to get a bike ride in?  It's looking dismal here this morning.

Yay for free health care in Canada!

The Nature Girl had an accident and broke her neck, her arm and her wrist.  She's okay actually, as scary as that sounds.

Hey, that's a lot of drama - what's going on?
We had our own share of drama yesterday; had to take young asklet to the emergency room with suspected appendicitis. The doctors also thought so, but cat-scan came back normal and pain eventually subsided. He is still on the watch list in case pain returns today.

She's spending the summer in Lillooet, BC - building a straw bale house.  She had a bad fall, an hour long trip to the tiny local ER, where x-rays showed the compound fracture in her humerus and also a suspected neck fracture.  Then a three-hour ambulance trip to a bigger hospital for a CT scan...all the while strapped of course to a back board and in a neck brace.  The neck fracture scared me to death waiting as I was three time zones away, but it turned out to be minor.  All in all she was very lucky, both physically and that it happened in Canada, because here in the real world she is uninsured and it would be tens of thousands of dollars of medical bills.

Maybe - he's been drinking regular milk lately instead of lactose reduced on the theory that he had grown out of the problem. It worked for a while, but maybe came back with a vengance.
He still feels a bit tender, but that is probably residual pain from yesterday. He is acting quite chipper - maybe because his scheduled departure for Norway/camp this afternoon is at stake.

I hope he is okay, and that you don't wind up making another emergency trip to the hospital.

Nope, she's got a pseudo mother up there who is hosting her and she's been with her the whole time.  I'll find out more today but she may only be in the hospital one more day and then recuperating at "home" up there.  The woman is an herbalist/shaman :) and is very motherly.
