Deep Thought

by BooMan
Thu Jun 5th, 2008 at 11:45:16 PM EST

I continue to be somewhat dumbfounded by headlines like Ferraro wants Obama to pay Clinton’s debt and Lanny Davis leads a Hillary Clinton veep push. Even reading them from Europe, those types of headlines are so contaminated with Stupid that one has to wonder how stupid Stupid can get. I'm officially in the initial stages of the Bygones Phase of this primary, so I won't detail all the ways in which headlines like this are self-defeating for the Clinton Camp. Those that have been paying attention know that they ring about as hollow as 'Michael Richards demands that Fresh Prince admit that Seinfeld was the Bestest Sitcom Ever'.

1.) Stupid intrinsically contains more stupid than the human mind is capable of comprehending. Stupid surrounds us, binds us, penetrates us-- no, maybe that's the Force.

2.) I'd reckon there will continue to be some of this passive/aggressive, conflicted stuff coming out of what's left of Camp Clinton for a while because it's still early days in the big unity thing, AND Davis and Ferraro are the two single worst surrogates I've ever seen. Comedy gold, they are. They just can't let the thing go. They got bloodied and insulted and driven cuckoo themselves, and they're just pure negative energy. And comedy gold. Did I say they were comedy gold? Clinton will shut those two up forthwith if she's got a lick of sense. But then there's still Bill to worry with. Who knows whose face he'll be wagging his finger in tomorrow?

by Sprocket77 on Fri Jun 6th, 2008 at 12:20:23 AM EST
I think that Davis and Ferraro are comedy gold.

I hear that Obama met with Clinton last night (I am writing this Friday morning). I hope that that's the last time he spends any time with her for a month.

Let H. Clinton figure out how to resolve her debt (I hear $20 million, plus another $11 million to herself and Bill, which I figure Bill can set right with another few speeches to the corporatist murderers in Colombia). Let Obama cogitate on who's gonna be the Veep but make no decisions. Let things be known about Bill's unwillingness to be vetted. Let the Repub ad featuring Hillary circulate. Then that question will be answered.

I don't really see it as stupid. It's worse than that. 'Stupid' really means that a person is limited in a way that the person cannot overcome. It's almost a physical limitation.

What all this stuff, including Clinton's speech Tuesday, really is is an attempt to dictate something that show they are the ones REALLY in charge.

Clinton's speech was really an attempt to 'anoint' Obama. It's another attempt to demean him. Ferraro and Davis are attempting the same thing. They simply cannot accept that the Democratic Party is Obama's now. So if they can get Obama to look 'beneaththem by accepting some demand

They cannot accept this defeat from someone who they really think is not an equal. So the demands come. As Obama rejects them, the public denouncements of Obama will increase, They will talk how he is unfair, and how that shows he his politically immature.

This is also why I think Clinton's 'endorsement' Saturday will be half hearted. It will be subtly conditional.

It seems that they can't help it but that would be giving them too much credit. In fact, politicians and political campaigns are very calculated things. Clinton knew exactly what she was doing when she said that she John McCain were qualified to be commander-in-chief but that Obama was not.

She never intended to be Obama's running mate. That's all just another demand to be made on Obama to make him appear weaker. Part of the propaganda campaign waged against Obama on behalf of the people who put 109 million in her joint account.

that BS, Obama should not pay a damn dime of Hillary's debt. Clinton supports are doing what they can to make Obama look weak. Hillary should have quit  a long time ago..with her comment about RFK's death..she lost all respect.

Obama's supporters should be given the chance to help her once she concedes. Just in the name of party unity.

Ferraro is the last person anybody should be listening to after the crazy accusations she was throwing around.  Thanks to her and Bill's claims we now have some polls showing McCain ahead with women and even stranger I have women telling me that the word "periodically" when used normally is a sexist term.  They are seriously trying to parse anything that you could tie to gender out of his words and turn them sexist it is insanity.  I don't begrudge them their anger at the media who did in fact throw a pretty significant amount of sexist statements at her over the course of the race, but trying to turn that into being Obama's doing is ridiculous.

Lanny Davis on the other hand is just humorous in how little rationale he seems to have.  Watching him makes me wonder how he has gotten as far as he has in his career.  I admire his loyalty and I do feel for him and Hillary's supporters in general, but he always seems to take the wrong course in displaying that loyalty.

how stupid Stupid can get

If the last seven years are any indication, the Clinton campaign tail spin, after the nomination slid out of their grasp, and they realized the American people in the democratic party had chosen somebody else ...... well they are about the second level of stupid. Or about stupid version 2.3 about right now.

But never fear, they have very good examples of stupid to work from, the Bushco insane clown posse is creating new levels of stupid cause they ran outa all the old ones around 2005. They are working on stupid version 9.9 about now a days, and haven't given up thinkin' it will still work.

...one has to wonder how stupid Stupid can get.

Here's hoping that Obama ignores the Stupid and continues to do things his way.

- Does John McCain even know what he stands for anymore?

I think by the end of yesterday's news cycle it pretty well was out there that Hillary was simply damaging herself and he future. It was also pretty clear that there was no practical way Hillary could be VP.

And Obama demonstrated superior, presidential leadership when he said the next thing anyone will hear from his camp on this is when they make the announcement (read: it is my decision to make and I will make it -- that is for me somehow importantly different than being a "decider").  It also said to the media and the public, move along, this story is over.

What I really have questions about is how Hillary's excuse/explanation for why she didn't concede on Tuesday is she needs time reflect on what is right for her and her interests. Huh? She's had since 5 Feb. to think about the possibility of losing the nomination. It was bloody mathematically obvious for weeks. She wants to be president and she was unprepared for this moment? Shit, instinct and manners along aren't enough?

This shows such a total lack of judgment but also a severe lack of self awareness about how she shows up. I think late Wednesday or midDay Thursday, enough people told her (perhaps including Obama), "Hillary, you need to go" and she finally got it.

Now I really wonder how this will play out for her. Will she really campaign for Obama? Does he really want  her (and Bill) stumping for him? Will this mark the end of the Clinton mafia which frankly requires dominating power and influence to have any power and influence at all? Perhaps she and Bill will go away and reinvent themselves doing good things, as Gore did. How do you think Bill would look in a beard?

It's all about negociation.  Here's the deal that sealed the pact between Clinton and Obama.  Lanny Davis gets to be caretaker for Camp David, in charging of cleaning up and all.  Security detail will be as it is now with the Secret Service.  Phil Singer gets a new uniform so he can stand outside the White House to greet tour groups. Hillary, of course gets whatever she wants short of Veep.  It's a win-win solution.

And, Mark Penn gets a tax audit.

I think that's about it.  Sounds good to me.

All good except the Clinton part. You really want her as Secretary of State... dodging sniper fire and AEDs?

Defense? There's that sniper fire again

Health & Human Services? She could work on health care

Homeland Security? You want her taking the 3am call? She says she's ready.

Energy? You want her out front on what may be the most important policy decisions of the next administration?

Treasury? She couldn't handle billing records and commodity purchases on her own.

There are some safe spots to stash her:

Attorney General? Well, she wouldn't have worry about billing records.

Labor? She can advocate for the rights of the working man then throw back some shots after work at some hautie Georgetown bar.

I suppose it would also be safe to stash he somewhere safe like HUD, Commerce, VA, Ed, Ag, Interior

Seriously? If she wants a role and legacy, give her a mission. Appoint he head of the VA or something within the Defense Department to have her care for the well being of all these veterans coming home with PTSD, brain injuries, and limb loss.

The work of the military has outstanding but greatly insufficient. They are just not prepared to deal with the amount and type of injuries and life for these men and women will be forever changed in any event. Give that as her challenge for helping to correct the damage from this mistaken war.

... I think I hit stage one the day after I voted in Ohio in March (OK, for neither of the remaining contenders).

And, yes, if Stupidity itself read to many headlines from the US political press, its IQ would drop.
