I'm starting to think that living is easier in winter. (As long as it isn't snowing heavily.) No lawns to cut weekly and no awful heat/humidity. That whole dry heat in the west sounds good right about now.

I'm not much for extremes either way, but, where I used to hate hate hate the winters when I lived up north, I now hate hate hate the summers. I feel so lethargic when it's hot and muggy. I don't want to do anything.

I'm not nearly as driven to mow our little plot since fuel for the mower is now 4.19 here. Its the best excuse I can think of. Last year someone stole my 1 gallon mower gas can out of the carport, so I had to buy a big cabinet to lock the new one up. I expect to wake up some night and find hoodlums siphoning gas out of my little push mower and stealing its tiny hubcaps for good measure;-)

Same here in Tucson. Everyone's complaining about the humidity and I'm loving it compared to the constant sauna conditions over the past few days in Tejas.

She's doing much better. She got her staples and drain out over the weekend but got a bigger cast that she has to wear for 16 weeks. Instead of construction she's doing some herbalist work now. Much safer... :)

Good morning everyone.

We've had nothing but scorching weather down here. We've been staying in the mid-high 90's with the heat index in the 100's everyday. The one good thing is that it has stunted the grown of the grass, and the lawn is turning the prettiest shade of brown. :)

Her asthma has really been kicking in. We have a home health nurse that has been coming by, and she gave FMom hell for not taking her breathing treatments like she is supposed to. So at least now she's doing what she's supposed to.

So how does it feel to have the house all to yourself?

The being by yourself takes some getting used to, but I found that I liked it. Just to have the luxury of putting something down, and knowing it will still be there when you need it again is always a good feeling.

I'm fine unless I have to leave the house for any reason. Even that initial two minutes in the hot car before the AC works is almost unbearable. Something that never happened up north but happens here all the time...when I get in the hot, hot car my scalp starts to itch/burn from the heat. WTF? My kids say the same thing.

We had thunderstorms last night too. Long ones, but we only lost power for about 5 minutes (what a nice change from out usual routine).

2 more days of algebra class after today. And it's beach time on Sunday. :)

Our storms were Monday night and there were something like 100,000 homes and business in central/south central Indiana without power. There were even some houses that burned down from lighting strikes.

We had a couple of decent size branches come down on the house but other than that is was just a lots of noise and flashing lights, no electricity, and very little sleep.

It's not that bad here -- Bebo and Sniff are right now sleeping within 18" of each other -- but Sniff growls if Bebo gets too close. I think it will be okay once he's convinced that he's not going to be displaced as king of the couch.

For the best views, you have to pay to take the elevator, or climb the 90m (300 ft.) to the top of the towers. Note: The elevators don't always work and the final "ladders" to the top are very narrow and quite steep. As you cross the bridge to enter the towers, look for the carved condors -- the stonework is impressive and the condors look as though they are about to fly away. The basilica is also famous for its mystical gargoyles in the form of local Ecuadorian icons such as pumas, monkeys, penguins, tortoises, and condors that guard the outsides of the church.

I just remembered, when I visited Zaragosa, SP in '87, the daily schedule there seemed quite sensible. It was a little eerie to walk around in a good sized city where nothing moved in the afternoon. Sort of like an urban "Mary Celeste".

Bebo is cute and is exhausting so I can definitely understand your decision.

We had a dry weekend which was nice. Forecast is for heat and humidity and chance of thunderstorms for most of the week but drying out toward the end.

I think they're predicting 105-107 head index for today and possible scattered thunder storms. It seems like they keep popping up all around us, but none here.

I always figured if I ever did get another dog after George, I would want a very quiet and lazy one. One that fits my character much more. It seems with George I'm always telling him to stop barking. He has been on a rampage this week because my brother, sil, and three of their grandchildren are visiting. I'm looking forward to the end of the week when they'll be out the door and a little peace and quiet will return. :)

We have someone in the neighborhood that has an old basset hound. He'll come through the back yard every now and then to inspect and George will go crazy. He mostly ignores George and waddles on to the next yard. He does have a loud bark on him when he's inclined to. :)

Hopey does have an impressive, barrel-chested bark on her. I'm sure people who come to the door when I'm not home think I have a vicious dog and that suits me just fine.

Sorry to hear about FMom's asthma and oxygen situation. My mom has been on oxygen for the past year (60+ years of smoking) but I think Medicare covers it. She's got to wheel that thing around in a stroller wherever she goes.

I don't know if it's the state or what, but to qualify for O2 here you have to have a po2 of 55. Hers was in the 60s. I just wish some of the people who set up these arbitrary numbers could see her when she can't walk six feet without giving out of breath. Luckily though that doesn't happen all the time. Lately her breathing has been getting better, but a lot of that depends on her. She's supposed to take four nebulizer treatments every day. For some reason she hates to take them, and it up to me to push her to do them.

With George here any time anyone come to the door they hear him barking, but I'm afraid with his barking they probably think it one of those electronic boxes that has dogs barking on it. George is small, but he's loud. :)
