We went out to Springer's Point, where Blackbeard once held a week-long beach party...(click pics to embiggen)

The live oaks are pretty gnarly looking trees if you ask me:

On the way to the beach, there's a graveyard where Sam Jones and his horse Ikey D are buried.  While we were walking by, some local folks were there, and they told us how Jones had to saw off the legs of the horse to be able to bury him there.  Having read that in a book about Ocracoke, I'm starting to think it's true.

Love the recycled fence materials on the path, don't you?

Here's the little cove at the point where Blackbeard had his head cut off.  They say his body swam around looking for his head for a while after they cut it off..and that's the Ocracoke lighthouse in the background.

And by some odd coincidence, we saw this sailboat out in the ocean while we were there:

What'd you-all do?

These are great! It was really enjoyable to go on the walk with you.

Some of us'all worked. Some didn't.

I'm waiting for some sign that your woods are fading as hope that this hot hot summer is winding down.  None such.

Actually the green is now that faded, tired shade of heat summer and the leaves are ragged and chewed on but the light and distance provide great cover.

But we're about to have the highest temps of the summer so definitely not winding down.

This is the time when I am just tired to the bone of all the heat and humidity. We've had very few days of relief this summer.

Bebo sure looks cute when she sleeps.

Well, as I may possibly have mentioned one or twice before, I hate, hate, hate summer so I'm in perfect agreement with you.

And yes she does -- though Sniff thinks she'd look a whole lot cuter if she were doing it somewhere far, far away from him.

Nah, doncha know that we've got a two drink minimum here?  So 6 bucks ought to cover it.

Hello to everyone.

My computer finally died and I'm doing a hit and run at the library.  Hopefully I'll be back in a couple of weeks, but it could be longer.

Hope everyone is doing fine and the summer heat isn't too bad on ya.

Take care.
