Sad Edwards Drama

by BooMan
Sun Aug 10th, 2008 at 10:15:57 AM EST

It keeps getting worse for the Edwards. Now his nurlfriend was a notorious Manhattan party girl.

Author Jay McInerney told the New York Post that Alison Poole, the protagonist of his 1988 novel “Story of My Life,” was based on Hunter, whom he dated for a few months in the 1980s back when she was Lisa Druck.

"She's a nice girl," McInerney told the Post’s Page Six. "She used to be a real party girl. When she wasn't out at nightclubs, she was taking acting classes. We dated for only a few months, but in that period, I spent a lot of time with her and her friends, whose behavior intrigued and appalled me to such an extent that I ended up basing a novel on the experience. It was narrated in the first person from the point of view of an ostensibly jaded, sexually voracious 20-year-old who was inspired by Lisa. I certainly thought of Alison Poole as a sympathetic and ultimately endearing character."

To which MoDo responds:

So narcissist walks into a New York bar and meets a legendarily wacky former Gotham party girl — whose ’80s exploits were chronicled in a novel by her former boyfriend Jay McInerney because the behavior of her and her friends “intrigued and appalled me.” When you appall Jay McInerney, you know you’re in trouble.

Meanwhile, Riell Hunter's sister is taunting Edwards, daring him to take a paternity test. But $114,000 seems like enough money to keep Riell Hunter from participating in any paternity test. I wonder if that crack John made about 'not loving her' is going to cost him another 20 grand...or more?

Display:
MoDo calling someone else a narcisist is ludicrous.

I always wonder what type of woman would have an affair with a man who's wife has cancer. I guess we know now.

Are liberal Democrats playing into the effects of twenty years of religious right standards on the public or just Edwards' hypocrisy that came known later? An affair? Or have we as a nation developed British style pruient rag news style interests?

The French must once again be laughing their asses off, as they did during the Clinton affair. Sex is evil? I'm going with the French on this one.

true..look at the French PM.. divorced his wife and found another one while in office. Can't politicians be normal people too.

French pm may be normal but not exactly admirable.  Or inspire confidence.  I don't think the French hold him in high regard--for his personal or public life.

I don't much care about people's personal lives, whether they are public figures or not, but I do care if it influences use of campaign funds or public monies or policies.  And it really ticks me off if they've been spouting off on morality when they have very loose standards for themselves.  And even more so if they are cheating on a spouse with a serious health problem (Gingrich, McCain and Edwards).  Can't we agree this is pretty low?

What is that? I've used the term 'urlfriend' to talk about a friend online, but this is throwing me.

You know, I could really care less about what John Edwards and another consenting adult do with their genitals.

Quite frankly, this tripe isn't worth the front page.  Russia and Georgia are at war (and the west, led by the US, has totally backed down), ABC still refuses to identify the source that lied to them about the anthrax mailer, China's totally reneged on promises of transparency or human rights abuses in return for the Olympics, Kirkuk is heating up, and the front page is "OMG Edwards stuck his dick in someone".  And not just once, but three . freakin.  posts.

About a guy who's not running for office, doesn't hold public office, and whose wife has known for 2 years.

You know what would be just as relevant?  Three front pagers about how I finally got around to repairing the ceilings on the second floor of my house.

I didn't read beyond 'nurlfriend' because I don't give a flying fuck about this crap.  What I thought was hilarious was over at Think Progress, there's a post up about how Fox News refused to cover the Russian/Georgian story instead focusing on this Edwards thing and yet, if you looked at the 4 (now deleted) posts below that one, they were all about Edwards.

It's without legal effect...Edwards can't claim he was blackmailed.

Oh yes, you would have to prove that the sisters were on at least talking terms enough to conspire to get even with cad Johnny Boy.  Or have him pay for silence.

There is too much "friends of..." and "sister of..." attribution in the press that makes me think that the original story came from someone close to Hunter.

Edwards advisor made payments to Hunter

Edwards and Hunter initially met each other sometime during the winter of 2006 in a New York bar, according to published reports. The first check cut to Hunter's film company Midline Groove Productions was written on July 5, 2006, for the cost of $12,500, according to campaign finance reports.

Midline Groove Productions was incorporated in Delaware on June 30, 2006, according to business records.

In a four-month span, Edwards' political action committee paid $100,000 to Hunter's newly former video production company for four Web videos. That was followed by two smaller paments totaling $14,461 from Edwards' PAC, the last one coming on April 1, 2007.

It was unclear why the campaign stopped contributing to Midline. It also was unclear what happened in late October 2007, when the company was listed as inactive.

I marvel at how real life stories sometimes provide irony and comedy that no fiction writer could dream up.  Edwards' girlfriend had a video company that was called "Midline Groove Productions."

I don't really care about the story anymore, but, after his performance on Nightline, I'd guess Edwards is still lying, since he spent the entire interview dodging questions.  Ever the slick Southerner.

I have little doubt he's the father, personally, since I have a difficult time believing that this woman was sleeping with half the campaign staff.  It's also a little too convenient that Andrew Young takes the fall while they're shoveling cash to her.

Booman, you have just intentionally or inadvertently invented a fantastic word: nurlfriend.

Please tell us the definition of this delicious neologism.
