The Runway in Nowhere

Do you see what happens, John McCain, when you declare war on your base (the press)?

From the Wall Street Journal:

During an appearance Friday on ABC's "The View," Sen. McCain said Gov. Palin shared his views, and hasn't sought congressional earmarks. "Not as governor she hasn't," he said.

In fact, in the current fiscal year, she is seeking $197 million for 31 projects, the records show. In the prior year, her first year in office, she sought $256 million for dozens more projects ranging from research on rockfish and harbor-seal genetics to rural sanitation and obesity prevention. By comparison, her predecessor, Gov. Frank Murkowski, sought more than $350 million in his last year in office.

The McCain campaign said Sunday that Gov. Palin's overall record is one of fiscal discipline. "Her record is cutting the number of earmark requests from the previous administration sizably," said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds, and she has vetoed wasteful state spending.

As for Sen. McCain's televised comments on Friday, Mr. Bounds added, "If he gave viewers a mistaken impression, it certainly wasn't intentional."

In an interview with ABC News on Friday, Gov. Palin herself suggested she no longer seeks earmarks for her state. "The abuse of earmarks, it's un-American, it's undemocratic, and it's not going to be accepted in a McCain-Palin administration. Earmark abuse will stop."

If John McCain and Sarah Palin lied, that certainly wasn't their intention. Is this crap getting old yet? I particularly like this Palin earmark request because is seems somewhat familiar:

She also has sought $4.5 million to upgrade an airport on a Bering Sea island that has a year-round population of less than 100.

Is this the 'Runway in Nowhere'?

Governor, when did you stop abusing your earmarks?

from the truth...the girl can't help herself...lyings just sooooo easy:

...Palin also hit more familiar territory during the speech, using some of the same lines she has used since her national introduction earlier this month at the Republican National Convention. She talked about putting the Alaska governor's jet on eBay, and repeated the assertion, "On that bridge to nowhere, I did tell Congress, 'Thanks but no thanks.'"

Both of those standard lines drew loud applause from the crowd, but they are also likely only to inflame the ire of her opponents and numerous pundits who say they are half-truths.

About an hour after Palin finished speaking, Democrats sent out their response.
"If Governor Palin wants to represent 'change' in Washington," U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter, D-Golden, said in a statement, "she could try something like telling the truth about her record of support for the bridge to nowhere or for other pork-barrel earmarks, her outdated and extreme positions on women's issues, her heaping of millions of dollars in debt upon the small town of Wasilla, Alaska, or her abuse of power investigation.

"The Republican presidential ticket does not represent change; this ticket represents the same old lobbyist-driven attempt to preserve the George W. Bush policies."

Throughout Palin's speech, a protester at the back of the arena sporadically shouted, "You're not qualified!" Palin supporters around the protester shouted her down with chants of "USA! USA!"

Is that jingoistic "USA! USA!" chant all that Republicans can come up with in response to anything remotely resembling free speech or anything which conflicts with their dictated Republican orthodoxy???  I guess if that doesn't work then the next step is just to taser the gal (or guy).  It's probably outlined that way in "The Official Republican Handbook".

Please, Goopers, can't we put some kind of moratorium on that stupid shit?  And as a sign of solidarity all us effete liberals will meet you halfway and we'll quit raising our pinkies when we drink our lattes.

Is it a deal?

When is this shit going to go the way of "The Wave" at football games, disco clothes and plaid sport jackets?  I can only take so much of "TEH STOOPID".
