Polls Update

Obama has reached 51% of the vote in the new CNN/Opinion Research poll. He leads in every national tracking poll today. He also got a very encouraging result in Virginia from SurveyUSA (Obama 51%, McCain 45%) and ABC/Wash Post (Obama 49%, McCain 46%). If Obama wants to lockdown Virginia, he must do better than 28% among white men (ABC/Wash Post) and close McCain's twenty-point advantage with military veterans. I suggest bringing out all those retired generals that were on display at the Democratic National Convention. Winning Virginia would almost assure victory in the Electoral College.

Note also the CNN poll that shows that two-thirds of American voters find the GOP either partially or totally to blame for the economic disaster we're in now.  Nearly half find the GOP to be the sole culprit.

This is a winning issue for the Dems and Obama.  They need to hit hard hard hard hard and stop this idoitc bailout without a real solution to the problem.

Agree about the generals. BTW - Where is Wes Clark? People know him and he has credibility. Has Obama dismissed him because he supported Hillary?

Even more important, Obama needs to go after McCain on his legislative record on veterans issues and compare it with his own. McCain's gotten a pass here because of his egregious habit of selling himself as a POW/war hero and no one seems to notice that his support of veterans' issues has been abysmal. Given half a chance he'd even privatize the VA (more "vouchers"). Having worked for 30+ years as a VA psychologist, I can state with some authority that this would be a disaster.

Suspect addressing the veterans issues aggressively and having Biden (given his legislative history) go after McCain on women's issues (and not just abortion) would help significantly.

wherethe hell is webb?
i've seen a little of warner but Webb??????
by billjpa (billjpa@aol.com) on Mon Sep 22nd, 2008 at 07:09:09 PM EST
Either Webb has aspirations of his own that he doesn't want tied to Obama, or there are skeletons no one wants around the campaign. Or maybe Webb is CIA and they're very leery of Obama. The most searches on Google for "Obama" still come from the Langley area...

Bob Tuke, Candidate for U.S. Senate:

"Rushing to give the Bush Treasury Department a blank check is not a solution, but invites the same reckless spending and lack of oversight that caused the current situation. We should slow down and require any plan to deal with the weakened financial situation of banks to include the following: strict accountability to insure that institutions benefiting from government assistance are held accountable for their debts; assurance that other nations are paying their fair share for the rescue of their own banks; and requirements that taxpayer money be used to stabilize consumer banking functions and not for executive compensation.

"While this has been going on, Nashvillians have been experiencing a shortage of gasoline for days without explanation. We know the Colonial Pipeline is the conduit for most of Nashville's fuel, but it is a mystery why Nashville faces such extreme shortages while other cities on the pipeline seem to have plenty of supply.

"In the face of these crises, Tennessee's senior senator has chosen silence over leadership. It is unclear whether his loyalty to George Bush or his commitments to the bankers and oil executives who line his campaign bank account is the cause of his silence. But this is a time for leadership, not silence. I call on my opponent, Sen. Lamar Alexander, to focus on the problems facing Tennesseans rather than handouts for the wealthy elite on Wall Street and in the oil patch. When people are losing their jobs, their retirement security, and even their ability drive their vehicles, it's time to take care of the people first and let those who got us into this mess fend for themselves for a change."

It's 49-46 among Likely Voters.  I don't think LV models are a good way to do it, personally.  It's 50-44 among Registered Voters.

Be nice to America. Or we'll bring democracy to you country.

With the Obama campaign registration drive Likely Voter screens predicated on 2000 and 2004 have a high probability of under counting the Democratic voter pool.
