It's pathetic but I've had the week from hell and it comes down to a football game to catch a smile, and my team didn't disappoint me. Looks like a new era for Big Blue.

Of course, nothing delighted me more last season than seeing Notre Dame eat grass every Saturday. Yes, I know that's college ball. I also know there was really no segue.

But since we're talking football, I thought I'd throw it in anyway.

You know, I grew up a Washington football fan. It was deemed the "local" NFL team when I was growing up in Virginia (and clearly dating myself...this was before NC finally got a franchise).

But now that I live in the area? Sheesh. They kinda get on my nerves. I like individual players, but as a team...I dunno. Maybe I just don't like the press coverage. I don't know what it is, but I just get annoyed.

I'm gonna jump off the tubes momentarily and see if I can find "Animal Cops" on Animal Planet. With our two cats and my brother and SIL's dog, I've caught a case of being one of "those" animal people.

Did anyone see the tribute to the victims of 9/11?  I missed it and Olbermann just made an emotional apology for showing it and said if any network had shown that much they would have rightly been eviscerated for exploiting the dead.

From Digby

Palin Speech Moves Independents: Results of two nationwide polls conducted by SurveyUSA show Sarah Palin's speech at the Republican National Convention on the evening of 09/03/08 has helped the McCain campaign.

24 hours ago, independent voters nationwide were split on whether Palin was an asset or a liability to McCain's campaign. Today, by a 2:1 margin, independents say Palin is an asset. Overnight, the percentage calling the Alaska governor an asset to the campaign climbed 13 points; the percentage calling her a liability fell 17 points.
The numbers are similar among moderates, who 24 hours ago viewed Palin as a liability by an 11 point margin; today, Palin is seen as an asset by an 18 point margin.

Betting Line Changes: 24 hours ago, when asked if they would bet on Obama or McCain becoming president, Obama was a 16:15 favorite; today, it's flipped, and McCain is favored by the same ratio.

Grading The Speech: Of those who watched Palin speak last night, 60% give the speech a grade of "A." When those giving lower grades are factored in and a standard grade point average computed on a 4-point scale, Palin scores a "B," overall. Among Republicans, she gets an "A-;" among Independents, a solid "B;" among Democrats, a "C."

This will settle out over the next few days as the Convention disappears in voter's rear view mirrors, but it certainly tilted the narrative.  And now with the media running scared from the McCain campaign's lashing, is there any realistic chance that they will suck it up and do their jobs?

And the McCain campaign thinks the voter's don't need to see Palin answering no stinking questions from those liberal media tabloid whoremongers.  Jake Carney at Time says the campaign will tell them everything they need to know.

According to Nicole Wallace of the McCain campaign, the American people don't care whether Sarah Palin can answer specific questions about foreign and domestic policy. According to Wallace -- in an appearance I did with her this morning on Joe Scarborough's show -- the American people will learn all they need to know (and all they deserve to know) from Palin's scripted speeches and choreographed appearances on the campaign trail and in campaign ads.

Well, corporate media.  The gauntlet has been thrown at your feet.

Whadda ya' say?  Will they fold or will they fight?

Thanks Sarah Palin.  Last night, on my blog, I mentioned that Palin enegerized the Democrats with her petty and catty speech.  This morning, I posted a comment here that Micah Sifry said Obama should be able to raise $10M today. I doubted that number.

I shouldn't have doubted:

CNN
"Coverage of the Palin attacks on the news this evening just pushed us over $10 million," Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in an e-mail to reporters Wednesday night.

The Republican Party announced earlier in the day it had raised $1 million in the wake of Palin's speech.

Oh good lord - we are flipping around channels b/c it burns my eyes to keep the RNC on for more than a few seconds at a time...

Anyway, while watching Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares, I saw an ad for this during a commercial break:

Hole in the Wall

Seriously!?! This is about as devoid of ANYTHING as you can get. People try to fit themselves through funny-shaped holes in walls? I started laughing hysterically, and not because the show looks funny. It's a remake of a Japanese TV show, of course. This is what the morons coming up with TV content think Americans want to watch? Oh yeah, we heart Sarah Palin <rolleyes>

Now, had it been a show about men's bathrooms in airports...
