A Tribber's response to John McCain's speech.

Nuff said. Game over.

I liked the part where those women in pink did their bit of cabaret. And the way McCain pretended to suppress his rage... That was stellar.

No humor at all.  Not a single line.

No change in his voice.

He is worse than Bush and I didn't think that was possible.

It's just one slogan after another.  We've all heard this shit 5000 times.  Amazing.

comin' round the bend.

I have to wonder if they're idiots, or if they're hoping to get some Colbert mileage out of this.

i wouldn't be surprised if they took all their bumper stickers, threw them up in the air and picked them up randomly to create this speech.  Speaking of throwing up...

Not a single, specific, program.  Just meaningless blather...

That BS about "it doesn't matter whose idea it is" - that's a line that many republicans are using this year.   Kenny Hulshof in MO Gov race is using that line all the time.

Yep.

I was a POW, so vote for me....

Just amazing.

by dataguy on Thu Sep 4th, 2008 at 10:56:05 PM EST
All I heard was "I can't feed myself" briefly.  I didn't even notice the POW side stuff with it.

He looks like a cute, but ultimately weird and hopelessly out of touch, old man.

Bush just called, John.  He wants his 2000 speech back.

I mean for the love of God, the only new ideas the man had he stole from Obama.  Literally.

The rest of Bush's speech from 2000 and 2004 (school choice!  Terrah!  Bi-partisanship!  Cut foreign aid!) and then the last 5 minutes was "Did you know I was a POW?"

Screw him, it's over.

So far, every commentator has agreed with the proposition that "the speech was great".

I just cannot figure out what they are talking about.

by dataguy on Thu Sep 4th, 2008 at 11:18:28 PM EST
Finally, someone who told the truth.

He definitely states that there is no appeal to independents or disaffected democrats.

The "throw the bums out" is just ridiculous.

Well, if you live in Southern California, watch the news tonight. You'll see literally hundreds of people who could not get into the new HQ just opened here tonight. Some were okay, many were frustrated, many had never ever been involved in a campaign before, and thanks to the poor organization (or lack thereof) for this event, they may not get involved at all.

What a waste!!

All that great energy, not leveraged, but wasted. Evidently the planners never dreamed a few thousand people would drive from all parts of Los Angeles to this tiny little office in the middle of nowhere (not far from where I live, for that matter).

And what really pissed me off???

The campaign asked us to shut the door and not let people in as they were literally at fire hazard capacity. I stepped up and helped keep the door closed, but had to open it for Fox News (hope they were nice to us), and for some uppity Congresswoman named Richardson who said she had a "meeting" with one of the campaign staffers. Originally, I turned her away as I had everyone else. She then said she was a Congresswoman. I said well then, go on in. She then decided to berate me for not asking her name before I said she couldn't get in. ARGH. I was really angry then. And I don't know how this group works, but no one in their right mind would have scheduled a meeting that night. When I pressed her, it devolved to an "invitation." I let her in but said it was elitist of her to use her connection to get in when all of those first timers were being shut out. "That's not what this campaign is about," I said. She then proceeded to lecture me for another few minutes. All I know is, she stood there and lost my vote and didn't even care. What an ugly night.

I never did get in. But I do live nearby and am sure I'll be there often, so I just took off. But all that wasted energy and talent. I wanted to scream.

I know the woman who originally ran CA was not invited back - they ran a really nonexistant campaign here - the only reason we did well at all was that a bunch of volunteers stepped up and just did their own thing. But with a leader, CA might not have gone to Hillary at all.

Water under the bridge. And I'm tired and hungry, and want to see if I haven't yet missed Obama on O'Lie-lee. But I'm still pissed. And this should have been a happy night.

That's Laura Richardson.  She's the one whose homes are getting foreclosed on.

Oh, I wish I'd recognized her name!!! No wonder she took such offense to being called an elitist. And per Wikipedia, she voted in favor of FISA. Oooh. I rarely get angry - I'm very happy-go-lucky most of the time. But her lecturing me? That was so bizarre and so unwarranted - and now, to find it was THAT woman? I heard her on the radio, trying to explain away her foreclosures. How the hell did she get to be a Congresswoman????

You see, Republicans don't need flag pins - everyone knows that Republicans are patriotic by definition.

But Democrats are liberal/commie/islamofascist/surrendermonkey/traitors, so they need that extra bit patriotism that you get when you pin a piece of metal painted in primary colors and made in China on your suit.
