It's time to shed just a little bit of your cynicism and get to work. It's time to get involved in a positive way.

I look forward to Spring. I think Obama's first few months are going to be somewhat bumpy-- but when the good weather arrives in April, it's going to dawn on us that Bush/Cheney are really gone, and it's time to get on board with the new agenda.

And to any who are in DC this week - PLEASE visit the FDR memorial. It's the least touted, and most powerful and moving of all the monuments. It's a stunning witness to the large chunk of history over which FDR presided.

Obama will face so many of the same challenges. I think it's important to relearn some of the lessons of FDR's time and remind people what it means to have the president's back. The people really loved FDR in a way few presidents were loved.

GAO: 83% of big U.S companies, contractors use offshore tax havens

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has just issued a report showing that most of the nation's largest public companies and government contractors rely on offshore subsidiaries to do business and cut their tax bills. Some of these same firms -- including big banks and insurers -- have already received tens of billions in taxpayer money from the federal bailout fund.
Citigroup, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, American International Group, American Express have set up hundreds of tax-haven subsidiaries, the report states. All have taken billions from the bailout fund. Pepsi and Caterpillar, both of which have received billions in tax dollars from being major government contractors, also shelter revenue in offshore subsidiaries, The Washington Post says.
There's a big "but," however: It's legal under the U.S. tax code.

Can one stay cynical if one works anyway? My Scott half precludes any other disposition.

Even 'Our' guys need opposition and even cynical criticism. The cynicism makes Hope all the more appetizing in contrast.

Is there a position open for Obama's Red Team?

"Go Fightin' Cynics", I say. Prepare for the worst, but expect the best and all that.
