New cafe here...

Ask, I'm a little envious of your Sweet Revenge cupcake run!

Andi, can you repost your go with the flow picture here?  I think it's a good theme for this week.  I had an ophthalmic migraine episode yesterday, a sure sign that I need to relax and go with the flow. :)

Good morning, CG!
It probably won't make you feel better - but they seemed to taste even better than last time ;)

I guess that means that I'll enjoy the next one even more.  Now I just need an excuse to go to NYC...  :)

It's raining here and the kids are disappointed there's no day off from school.  Never mind all that vacation they just had.

I'm almost done the second sleeve...she's going to have to tell me how to do the ruffles.

Did she get buttons yet?  How's it look?

Hey CG -
I thought for sure you'd be done, but you've probably whipped out 2 pairs of socks in the meantime!
The sweater is really cute and I am the envy of all my coworkers and friends who are all trying to get me to commit to making one for them - ha! fat chance! The ruffles are pretty easy but surprisingly time consuming since you have to go into each stitch 2x with the double crochet. The directions sound confusing, but they're actually correct (didn't you tell me that?). Don't hesitate to give me a call if you're not sure of something - or come on up! (We have 1/2 of a great Sweet Revenge cupcake (Carrot Island Spice) in the fridge - yesterday was my birthday, so we celebrated on those and the Crimson Cream - yum!). Got cute buttons too at M&J Trimming - took awhile to select - they need to be fairly small. Should be able to finish up by end of the weekend. Very excited - thanks for turning me onto the great pattern and courage to do it!

Wow!  I'm so impressed!

I've nearly finished the second sleeve while waiting for the power to come on this morning, so I'm hoping to catch up with you by the end of next week.

You need to post pictures of the completed sweater!  :)

Glad you got to go to Sweet Revenge and get some nice yummies for curly's birthday.

And also glad you posted the sun on the ice picture because we never got any sun yesterday -- so all the freezing rain brought was lots of wrecks.

Lovely shot! Good morning Andi, ask & CabinGirl! Those little creeks were an endless source of entertainment when I was a kid. Any little stick or piece of bark became a boat to be followed downstream into new imaginary territories. Off to work - happy HD;-)

I love the creeks though most of them only flow when there's run off. There's a permanent good-sized creek (well permanent except for droughts) over on Happy Hollow that I really love.

There's nothing so much fun as playing with water when you're a kid, is there?  Garden hose, creek, pond, beach, whatever.

Come to think of it, it's still fun as an adult too.  ;)

or whatever else was growing in there...I think I'll stick with thinking it was just that it seemed colder than what came out of the faucet.   :)

It's amazing how many everyday occurrences when we were kids would now be considered cause for someone to call Child Services if our own kids did the same things.

No sign of ice here.  It's a pretty amazing day actually, with warm air streaming in from the south and winds topping 35 mph whipping the pine trees around. We're already around 70 degrees but expected to drop with a cold front.  We've had no winter yet which is just as well.
by Second Nature (denn1214 at gmail) on Wed Jan 7th, 2009 at 07:44:43 AM EST
I hate freezing rain but I still like having winter so 70 degrees this time of year just doesn't appeal to me. It's lazily snowing here so it's pretty without much chance of accumulation.

You just need a summer place up north.

We have ice and rain here this morning.  Not conducive to outdoor coffee drinking (or much of anything else, either).

No delayed school opening, though, so I guess it's not that bad.

Well I guess that's the advantage for me in living south but not that south of Cleveland -- winter is overall very agreeable. I like crisp temps, I like snow, I like the warmth of a wood stove, I like the seeing the shape of the land through the bare trees.

Meet Priscilla, who lives at the "Pub in the Paddock" Pyangana, Tasmania.

Morning everyone.  And, no Andi, we did not try the "pig beer" as it's not really beer but just a watery concoction containing slightly fermented grain that the staff at the bar pour into empty beer bottles.  For two dollars you get two bottles worth.  The pigs love it.

The pictures are even better the second time.

But I am disappointed that Pig Beer isn't going to become a major challenger to Fosters. ;)

I should have known -- I don't drink any of the major U.S. beer as I find them all to be pretty much dreck.

If I get down-under, I'll be sure to check in with you and keres on which beer to drink (I favor heavier, dark brews; my favorite is Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout).

Morning Andi.  As I was introducing Imogen to the joys of Northern California micro-brews she told me that she had never liked beers before she had them in Europe.  Thas was because, and I quote, "Australian beer tastes like a urine sample from a mule".

Hence my renewed interest in home brewing.  As an incentive (as if you'd need one) to get down here for a visit, I'll brew you an Oatmeal Stout you can stand a spoon in.

Oh, and I keep meaning to point out that The Bay of Fires made the number one spot on the Lonely Planet's places to see in 2009.  That's where we went just before xmas.

Belgian beers are magnificent. I make a fine Grand Cru (amber beer flavored with coriander and orange peel), and an equally fine Kriek (dark beer flavored with sour cherries).

Four years will pass in a flash.  As will the next two weeks. Luna's puppies are due two weeks from tomorrow.  She's already huge, so we're expecting either a monster liter or monster puppies.

If anyone is Boo land wants one, I can look up the shipping costs. Australia has no rabies, so that makes it easy to ship them.

Taken a few minutes ago.  I've already given her the "mommy clip", i.e. cut the hair on her belly so that I can see her progress better, and to make sure the pups can find the nipples.  She'll shed most of that hair anyway so it's easiest to get it off in all in one shot as opposed to vacuuming it off the floor everyday.

Yesterday we went for more of a waddle than a walk.  Thus far, her strategy has been to sleep through the whole thing.

Normally she's fairly tucked up. She's gained about 10 pounds so far.  Also she's just getting the start of mammary development, especially towards her tail-end. From now on the pups will grow very fast and I wouldn't be surprised if she has them early.

although I don't go for the really hoppy ones - too bitter.

we homebrew a fine dark ale (actually probably more of a porter) with ginger that's a personal favourite.

Fortunately my home state where I plonked Keres down does have a more than passable brewer (and the oldest in Australia too), Cascade, which makes a decent bitter and stout in particular. There's also been an explosion in the number of micro-brewers in Australia in the last few years, with some fine results, including here.

I still feel though that it's got a way to go; the New Zealanders have a more refined love of brewing than I us think, and tend to produce a fab range more in the European style.

Tasmania has a critical lack of micro-brew eateries, unlike NZ, and I think if Keres and I had the money (and didn't mind never travelling anywhere ever again), we might be tempted to set one up. I still dream of 'Dux de Lux' in Christchurch, NZ, which served nothing but fine vegetarian and seafood, and had a home-brewed ginger beer (as in beer with heaps of ginger) to die for. We went three times. :-)
