U.S. Midwest: Open Discussion

Al Franken is not going to be seated any time soon:

There will not be an attempt to seat Democrat Al Franken in the Senate until all legal challenges to his slim 250-vote lead over Republican incumbent Norm Coleman have been exhausted in Minnesota, Franken said Tuesday.

“We’re going to win the election contest,” Franken said to a group of reporters after giving Democratic senators a quick update on the Minnesota race during their weekly policy lunch. “After that, Senator Coleman may choose to . . . appeal to the Minnesota state supreme court. If they rule in our favor, then I imagine I’ll be certified. It won’t be very controversial. I’ll be seated. But no, we’re not attempting to be seated before that.”

I am so sick and tired of these republicans acting like children.  Isn't there one decent freakin repub? They can't all be a__holes.  I can barely stand to read the blogs or listen to the news anymore.  And don't get me started on the Democrats.

I have to keep reminding myself, there's a much better chance of a progressive agenda with the people we have now than the horror that could have been. I sometimes think of this old line, that's said to go back centuries, "Though the mills of the gods grind slowly, Yet they grind exceeding small." Hard to be patient, I know, with all the BS.

I'm not a patient person. I think I'm more surprised by  the group of Dems not sticking together, then the repub whiners.

I was a union organizer in the late 60s - early 70s. That's where I began to learn about patience. I'm really happy about some of the things we were able to achieve eventually, but boy, talk about cat herding! Management was certainly not our only difficulty! But yeah, why don't they work together more? They could do great things if only.

Like unions, Americans don't always look out for their best interests, like the elections of '00 and '04.  Must have been rather interesting though.

It was very! That was my first taste of city council meetings, since we were bargaining for the firefighters and some of the meetings were quite funny. Once a woman was arguing a point having to do with schools, IIRC and was trying to use the old "apples and oranges" line. She had actually brought several apples and oranges with her and was holding them up, when one got away and the whole mess of them went rolling everywhere. The whole room cracked up!

Pete Hoekstra is running for governor of Michigan in 2010.  That means his House seat is open.
