Dear Democrats, Grow a Pair

by BooMan

I would never, ever, suggest that Sen. Daniel Inouye is a coward, but why is he acting like one? What kind of joke is it to appropriate money to shutter Guantanamo Bay's detention facility with the proviso that none of the prisoners can be moved to the United States? Where are you going to try them? Where are you going to house them when they serve their sentences? What are we, a bunch of fucking morons?

Let's remind ourselves what kind of man Sen. Inouye is:

He was at the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941 as a medical volunteer.[2]

In 1943, when the U.S. Army dropped its ban on Japanese-Americans, Inouye curtailed his premedical studies at the University of Hawaii and enlisted in the Army.[2] He was assigned to the Nisei 442nd Regimental Combat Team, which became the most-highly decorated unit in the history of the Army. During the World War II campaign in Europe he received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and the Distinguished Service Cross, which was later upgraded to the Medal of Honor.[3]

Inouye was promoted to the rank of sergeant within his first year, and he was given the role of platoon leader. He served in Italy in 1944 during the Rome-Arno Campaign before he was shifted to the Vosges Mountains region of France, where he spent two weeks searching for the Lost Battalion, a Texas battalion that was surrounded by German forces. He was promoted to the rank of second lieutenant for his actions there. He was nearly killed in an assault in Italy in 1945, which saw Inouye survive a bullet wound to the abdomen and a point-blank attack by a German grenade, during a misson where Inouye advanced alone toward a German gun post to protect his surrounded men...

...Although he lost his right arm in WWII, Inouye remained in the military until 1947 and was discharged with the rank of captain. Due to the loss of his arm, he abandoned his plans to become a surgeon[2] and returned to college to study political science under the GI Bill.

I know Sen. Inouye isn't scared of putting a terrorist in an American prison cell. Why the hell does he think any significant number of other Americans are scared of that? We might not be as tough as he is but we're not a bunch of punk cowards. Tell the Republicans to stop whimpering and grow a pair of gonads. Tell the American people that they are good, brave people who are not, unlike the Republicans, afraid of their own shadows.

And then get on with solving this problem in an ethical way. Stop acting like you are a puppet and that yellow-bellied Republican fearmongers are your puppeteers. Jesus. You are ridiculous.

Maybe, a corrupt system is unable to produce courageous leaders and those who once had great valor are now just a shadow of their former selves. So goes the Empire in its inevitable decline.

Suppose you scrub your ethical skin until it shines, but inside there is no music, then what? Kabir

When in the last 40 years have the Democrats demonstrated the ability to grow nads? Keeping with the analogy, I have found that the Party regularly needs an extra-absorbent pad...

When was the last time the Democrats had a pair?  The only people Harry Reid stands up to are Feingold and Sanders ... things won't change until we get some new leaders .. and that change isn't Steny Hoyer .. Chuck Schumer .. or a few other gutless cowards

And this is why I keep coming back every day.  Booman, you are a breath of fresh air, never afraid to tell it like it is.  Thank you.

What are we, a bunch of fucking morons?
Well OBVIOUSLY WE ARE!

Obama screwed up big time in his rush to make it look like he was doing something by announcing the closure of Gitmo. Of course, we now find out, that he had no plan and no clue of where to send these detainees or how or where to try them. Duh-  a rookie mistake perhaps.

And now the usual chickenhawks are having the vapors over it. And now we're to bring back the military tribunals.

What are we, a bunch of fucking morons?

Excellent post! I wouldn't argue with one word of it!

There's more than one kind of cowardice and there are many causes of fear.

Inoye also helped scuttle the Iran/Contra hearings
