Funds for New Laptop

by BooMan
Fri May 29th, 2009 at 08:18:08 PM EST

Since my store has been defunct for over a year, I finally decided to replace my store with a donate button. You should see it in the top line of the page on the right. If you really want some vintage Booman Tribune t-shirts, coffee cups, or bumper stickers, I can still get them for you if you email me through the Contact page.

I've been relying on all of you to keep the site running ever since the economy tanked and advertising dried up. You been extremely generous at the end of each month, giving me enough in donations to pay my rent and server costs, and sometimes a little extra for stuff like food and bills. That's why, this month, I didn't want to burden you by asking for additional contributions to replace my broken laptop. Instead, I created a Facebook Group called Help Replace BooMan's Broken Laptop. You can go there and show your support by becoming a member. A lot of people are doing fundraising drives right now in the blogosphere, so it might not be the best time to ask. But I really need a new laptop. I am headed to DC soon for a conference and I won't be able to take this ancient desktop with me.

As always, I am grateful for and humbled by all your support.

You can become a Facebook follower of Booman Tribune here.

Wait!  I need a new laptop too! In fact, I need a laptop period.  Yeah, I know I'm no Booman, but holy crapola, who is?

So what's this Facebook thing?  Do they give out coupons for 25% off at Amazon or Best Buy if you join?  Cuz like, I would do it in a New York nanosecond if that's the case.

I don't know about discounts for joining, but you can create groups and causes once you join.  I wanted to add you as an author of Booman Tribune but I didn't see you as a member.

Damn, no coupons.  But I joined anyway despite may anti-social personality.  Just so long as I never have to tweet.

We're going to have to institute a laptop policy for you like highschool kids have.  We'll require you to buy one of those padded laptop cases that schools make kids (and faculty) use.

Booman must keep his laptop strapped into his laptop case AT ALL TIMES and the case must be zippered when transporting the laptop.

I assume that your Sony Vista bit the dust.  I remember because I got a Sony at about the same time as you.  I'll try and send something once out of range of my evil overlords.

Oh, there you are, Perry. -Phineas -SLB-

What would it take to get two of the gray t-shirts in size large (at appropriate laptop replacement markup price, of course)?

I love those things.  I've worn mine all over the U.S. and in at least 4 other countries too :)

I could use a new t-shirt too...  Will catch up on Facebook, etc. when I get home.

So far the best thing I've discovered about Facebook is being able to find and get in touch with old high school friends I haven't seen in years and who now live in other states -- and keeping up with extended family members. Haven't quite got the rest of the social-networking part of it down yet.

But I'll be happy to 'friend' you and join the group!

Matched my contribution to the Open Left fundraiser for you too. You've helped us down in Texas in the tough times so the least I can do.

Some of us are not big fans of Paypal - is the address on Ann's Choice Way a valid way of making a contribution?
by sidewinder on Fri May 29th, 2009 at 09:52:41 PM EST
yes, you can use that address if you prefer snailmail.  I certainly understand that not everyone likes to use paypal.  Thank you very much.

Ah, BooMan. At times like this it's actually a drag to be poor.
