TPM Muckraker has a timeline on the strange disappearance of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, who appears to have gone Galt in Argentina for a few days without informing the Lieutenant Governor or his staff or his wife.

Extra butter!  I have a feeling that there are a lot of slippery hands involved in this story.

Come on Guhv-nah, let's have a gander at that passport stamp.  That would clear up everything.

Sanford back from South America: press conference and interview

Governor says he never hiked Appalachian Trail; says he cruised along the coast of Buenos Aires to unwind after stressful legislative session.
by Oui on Wed Jun 24th, 2009 at 12:47:16 PM EST

"cruised along the coast", eh... wouldn't take very long according to this little factoid from your link:

Trying to drive along the coast could frustrate a weekend visitor to Argentina. In Buenos Aires, the Avenida Costanera is the only coastal road, and it's less than two miles long. Reaching coastal resorts to the south requires a drive of nearly four hours on an inland highway with views of endless cattle ranches. To the north is a river delta of islands reached only by boat.

hmmmmmm...l think he's making this up as he goes, and he's not a very good liar ad-libber.

the revolution will not be televised...

coast of Argentina maybe, but Buenos Aires?? unless it's another lie - my bad, he misspoke I mean, and he meant to say Rio, he cruised the beaches of Rio.

No coast access: yes, BA was founded as a port to bypass authorized Spanish extraction of New World resources; in an estuary, has E-W routes to access routes from which entrepreneurs (pirates) received resources of Southern Latin America.

I actually feel sorry for the guy, his wife, his kids, his state.

What a mess.

It's easy to take pot shots, but right now, he just looks like a very wounded (and wounding) guy.

For his wife and kids, yes.  They believed this crapfilled turd.

Now we are gonna see the wife standing behind her man, telling us that this is not the real Mark Sanford.

Well, actually, it is.

I am 56.  I have many times thought "Gee, I sure would like to get lucky with that thing there." But, I haven't.  I've been faithful. Not because I am a good person, but just because it is the right thing to do.

And now this turd, fresh from telling us about the moral rectitude of conservatism, flies 5000 miles to do a little doggy-style fun.

I hope he has syphilis.

Well, no surprise there.  We all screw up sometimes.  But when conservatives mess up they act like it was some strange happening, a once in a lifetime confluence of events that forced them to fuck up.  And then they get right back on their moral high horse and demand that everyone else adhere to impossibly high moral standards.

It's not the infidelity, it's the hypocrisy.

by Second Nature (denn1214 at gmail) on Wed Jun 24th, 2009 at 03:10:31 PM EST
it's not the hypocrisy either, it's the stupidity. I can't believe he expected to get away with this - not just an affair but the whole disappearing act, telling his wife and staff different lies.
