Wanker of the Day

Republican Rep. Trent Franks:

A Republican member of the House of Representatives accused President Barack Obama of being "an enemy of humanity" during a conservative values forum this past weekend.

In a speech Saturday before the How to Take Back America conference, Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) made comments that went far beyond the limits of traditional White House criticism. At one point, Franks demanded that Obama release his birth certificate to prove his constitutionally eligibility to hold office. The bluntest charge, however, centered on the president's position on abortion, which the congressman derided as "insane" and godless.

Watch it here:

Insane and godless, eh? Enemy of humanity? This from the man who threatened to file a lawsuit against Obama for the release of his birth certificate (must be a lot of birthers down in Arizona)? The same guy who lied outright when he claimed that the Democrats health care reform efforts would the "largest expansion of abortion in the United States since Roe v. Wade."Ever heard of the saying by, oh I can't think of his name, but it goes something like this: "Let he who is without idiocy cast the first stone."

Oh, by the way, this fearless defender of America's freedoms is now walking back his statement, or at least his staff is:

Bethany Haley, spokeswoman for Franks, said the congressman was referring to “unborn humanity” and should have clarified his statement. She also said that Franks meant to say that Obama’s abortion-related policies have no place in government, rather than that Obama has no place in government. [...]

“He was just referring to the way President Obama has set himself up as the most pro-abortion president in America’s history,” Haley said.

Way to stand up for yourself Rep. Franks! I guess he still believes Obama is Godless and insane, but at least he's only an enemy to unborn humanity. Phew. What a relief. I thought for a minute there that maybe Franks believed Obama was part of a conspiracy to commit genocide.

Mike Huckabee on the United Nations: "Simply chip off that part of New York City".

ST. LOUIS -- Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.), speaking to a very friendly dinner crowd at the "How To Take Back America" conference, said that he'd "nearly had an Elvis moment" watching this week's United Nations general assembly sessions and spoke about pulling out of the world organization altogether.

"It's time to get a jackhammer and to simply chip off that part of New York City," said Huckabee, "and let it float into the East River, never to be seen again!" That remark got him a standing ovation, and Huckabee went on to suggest de-funding the U.N. entirely.

"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."

With such a brillinat remark I can readily see why he'd be a highly valued speaker.

Couldn't be any worse than 81-year-old singer Andy Williams being quoted in HuffPo saying that Obama wants the country to fail.

His face looks like it's been sanded down as much as his brain.  Anybody who would marry a ditz like Claudine Longet would be.

it's not the peyote that's the problem, it's that these self-loathing creatures feel it's more prudent to hide their addictions behind a façade and make the rest of us suffer for it.

= conservatism as found in my dictionary.

I am by no means a fan of Obama. I had very low expectations of him from the beginning, and he has still managed to disappoint me in a number of ways. But an enemy of humanity? No more than any other U.S. President has been an enemy of humanity, and a whole lot less (so far) than most of them.

Given George Bush's record of spreading death, destruction, and misery it would not be much of a stretch to say HE is an enemy of humanity.

by Hurria (Muslawia@gmail.com) on Tue Sep 29th, 2009 at 05:09:29 PM EST
Oh jeez, Hurria, you're such a pessimist. I am absolutely certain that Obama will produce some unprecedented empty gestures towards the Israel-Palestine problem in the last six months of his presidency.

At least he'd better. I still need to get "facts on the ground" to win this round of I-P bingo.

OK, Raven, this time I have to concede that you are almost certainly correct, and I have been unduly pessimistic. We WILL see some unprecedented empty gestures from Obama before this is all over, at the end of which he will shrug and talk about Palestinian intransigence, and how "we" can't want peace more than "they" do - oh wait! Rahm Emanuel already said that. Well, Obama will come up with some original way to once again blame the Palestinians for not accepting whatever "generous" crumbs Israel can be strong-armed into tossing their way.

For the enemy of humanity award of the decade, I nominate the republican party which provides a safe home for such malignant people as Trent Franks.
