There is genocide happening now. If we raised 10% of what we raised to change the regime here, we can end it

This started a while ago as a orange post. I am a bit surprised to learn that there are many people who think that there is no one in jail for pot. There is almost no one who is white who is in jail for pot. And if they are in jail they are poor.
The war on drugs is one part race war and one part criminlization of poverty. Let us remove criminal snactions for pot - regulate it like alcohol. The war on drugs has been the basis for destruction of civil liberties before the (equally endless) war on terror. Police get to keep assets. The milary is used against civilians. Police units are equiped as SWAT teams and raid homes. The war on drugs is, by the numbers, a race war. The war on drugs destroys black families. Some background follows. Read more... So where does President Bush fit in history? Is he the great leader? Just think what could have been saved if we had known he was coming!

ABC is corporation. It is acting rationally in defense of its corporate goals.
Notice that the most FABULOUS run-up to the war in Iraq happened while Colin Powell's son was the Chair of the FCC. Only a fool would insult Daddy while junior is in charge. Notice the vast decay of materials in broadcast. There is a reason for this. That reason is lack of competition and ownership rules.
If the Dems are in charge the massive media consolidation will not continue. The promise from Bush: ELECT ME AND THERE WILL BE NO BROADCAST RULES Read more... (654 words in story) by redwagon
There is a dairy on Big Orange about a niece and nephew in Lebanon. I just found out that International SOS is helping people get out of Lebanon.
I don't know that person. I would like to be able to contact that person. I am hoping that one of you knows this person. Here is the press release: Read more... (1 comment, 196 words in story) by redwagon
There is an online poll showing Lieberman as the most effective voice for Democrats at the WSJ
(as if we could do WORSE than turning the largest excess into a deficit? Who would we have to invade for THAT?) Look to the end for "vote: Who is the most effective voice for the Democrats?" It is a Lieberman love-fest. Read more... (217 words in story) by redwagon
This dairy is taken from the excellent work by Troutfishing on dailykos. I did not see this dairy here, and given the kind of individual focus of Booman I wanted to share it.
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/7/5/114513/8932 Here is the essence: A town in Iowa was aggressively supporting "Christianity" in schools. One Jewish family went to complain. When the six grader stood up to read, people in the crowd shouted hate speech. Eventually, the family fled from the town, in part because of death threats BY A FORMER SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER. The trial is starting soon, so that is why this would be of interest now. Read more... (1 comment, 191 words in story) by redwagon
Does being anonymous make you free from being accountable? Or does anonymity create the possibility of bringing accountability to powerful people?
This is a particularly appropriate discussion for a feminist blog. Privacy is a double-edged sword, and this community is filled with people who understand that. So suffer my introductory diary and let me here from you. Read more... (8 comments, 403 words in story) by redwagon
I know that I am preaching to the proverbial choir when I say that the people who call themselves "pro life" are rarely anthing of the sort. Certainly these are people who seem to push policies that support lots of abortion, and as an ideal would like these abortions to be as expensive and dangerous as possible. Like this:
"Under President Bush, the decade-long trend of declining abortion rates appears to have reversed. Given the trends of the 1990s, 52,000 more abortions occurred in the United States in 2002 than would have been expected before this change of direction." Therefore I am thrilled and very very happy to point you to an actual Pro Life bill. Read more... (15 comments, 446 words in story) by redwagon

One black woman is described as "going to loot a store". She is 50 years old, surviving, and HASN'T LOOTED ANYTHING. The two white folks are "finders" who are surviving. I am going camping this weekend because I have promised it a million times. I am consumed with guilt. But the people who could make a difference - our "leaders" - don't even care. redwagon Comments >> (1 comment) by redwagon
The FCC acknowledges that all the science points to safety, but wants to keep abortion happening by requiring the age group most in need to have surgical abortions instead of using emergency contraceptives.
FDA Delays 'Morning-After Pill' Decision
By LAURAN NEERGAARD The government today put off its long-awaited final decision on whether to sell emergency contraception without a prescription, saying the pill was safe to sell over-the-counter to adults but grappling with how to keep it out of the hands of young teenagers. It is not mere happenstance when the sparrow falls from the sky (Matthew 10:29).
"KANSAS CITY, KS--As the debate over the teaching of evolution in public schools continues, a new controversy over the science curriculum arose Monday in this embattled Midwestern state. Scientists from the Evangelical Center For Faith-Based Reasoning are now asserting that the long-held "theory of gravity" is flawed, and they have responded to it with a new theory of Intelligent Falling.

"But whatever the outcome on specific disputes, the document on which Iraq's future is to be built will require laws to be compliant with Islam. Kurds and Shiites are expecting de facto long-term political privileges. And women's rights will not be as firmly entrenched as Washington has tried to insist, U.S. officials and Iraq analysts say."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/13/AR2005081300853.html So in response to Islamic extremist who murdered 3,000 Americans we invaded the only major gulf state that was secular so we could install an Islamic government. In response to the slaughter of 3,000 Americans of all creeds and colors we kill two thousand Americans to install a regime where justice is handed out based on race, creed, and gender. This is our noble cause? To make women in Iraq wear a burqa? To remove reproductive rights? To implement legal honor killings? To legalize rape? I must be wrong. Pls tell me how I am wrong. Because this cannot be right. Someone please find a way I was wrong because this is too painful to believe. Comments >> (3 comments)
