Exposed: FEMA Propaganda TV

by jorndorff
Sat Dec 3rd, 2005 at 09:33:45 AM EST

[HT to Digby]

CNN ran a piece yesterday on the US Fire Administration's Emergency Education Network [EENET], which operates under the branch of DHS & FEMA. They produce a channel, the 'Recovery Channel,' which is beamed into FEMA-run Disaster Recovery Centers.

From their website: the Recovery Channel "is updated every day to assure the latest and best information is available without interpretation or spin directly from those working "on the ground" to serve disaster victims. The content is a mix of practical on-camera reports, pre-taped interviews, and produced segments and text. The Recovery Channel's sole objective is to deliver the correct information to disaster victims so that they can make good decisions for themselves and their families."

Well, not so much on that spin part. Why after the flip.

Were the WH/DoI in Abramoff's Pocket?

by jorndorff
Thu Nov 17th, 2005 at 11:03:43 PM EST

[CP @ DKos]

Documents released today by the Senate Indian Affairs Committee again confirm the reach of Jack Abramoff and his associates in the White House.

A February 21, 2001 e-mail from CREA Director Italia Federici to Eric Ruff, then-Communications Director to Gale Norton at CREA notes Abramoff associate Ralph Reed's reach in the White House:

From what I have been told, Ralph is working with Doolittle (don't know whether for free or as a paid consultant), and has been bending the ear of Karl Rove and possibly even the President about land-in-trust and gaming issues.

Two days ago, Raw Story reported that David Wurmser is reportedly a second cooperating witness in the Valerie Plame affair. Subsequent research shows that Wurmser has been questioned three additional times in separate investigations for his role in leaks of classified information. More inside.

Miller, Our Holy Saint of Reporter Ethics, Testifies For a Federal Shield Law

by jorndorff
Thu Oct 20th, 2005 at 06:04:37 PM EST

[From the diaries by susanhu, who hopes you'll also take part in BuzzFlash's "Name Judy's Book" Contest. The grand prize is, like, wow! Deadline: October 28.]

Yesterday, Our Holy Saint of Reporter Ethics™, Judith Miller, testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee during hearings considering a federal shield law to further protect journalists. The only problem is the law she's arguing for would still have led to her incarceration. But, Miller's never been much for accuracy and details.

From Miller's written statement:

Good morning, I am Judith Miller, a reporter for The New York Times. That statement, in and of itself, is extraordinary. Reporters don't usually testify at Congressional hearings. But the circumstances that in July forced me to spend 85 days in the Alexandria Detention Center in Virginia highlight the urgent need for a Federal shield law to protect journalists and their sources.

I am here today to urge you to enact the Free Flow of Information Act so that other journalists will not be forced, as I was, to go to jail to protect their sources. I'm here because I hope you will agree that an uncoerced, uncoercable press, though at times irritating, is vital to the perpetuation of the freedom and democracy we so often take for granted.
