It is hard for me to believe that something other than the constant "mess ups" of the Bush administration could be threatening civilization as we know it, but apparently this is the case. If you have nothing better to do and want to scare yourself silly, go to the Google, plug in "Colony Collapse Disorder" and start reading. After a couple of minutes, please pause and send me a comment about why I shouldn't be concerned about this.
Maybe I'm overacting (it certainly wouldn't be the first time) but I don't think so. I know this isn't really a diary, but I wanted to get some feedback from the more knowledgeable folks here and thought I had a better chance with this format. Forgive me please if I have overstepped my bounds. Comments >> (5 comments) by keepinon
But the wholesale price of gasoline has gone up about 12.5% since the day before the election. I know, as Jerome has pointed out, market forces are at work. This rise has nothing to do with where we are in the election cycle, but I just thought I would point out that the price was $1.44 a gollon before the election, and today closed at $1.62.5 a gallon.
As I said in September, if I were a betting man, I think I would put some money on the price going up, rather than down between now and the start of 07. I think it is likely to take off shortly after the new Congress starts its session. Could be very wrong...just sayin. Comments >> (1 comment) by keepinon
On Monday, 9/11/06, as I pulled into a local strip mall and headed for its' super market I couldn't help but notice the presence of The American Red Cross. Volunteers were out in force at about four locations in the parking lot of the mall. Red Cross trucks were parked conspicuously in a couple of different locations as well. As I pulled down a row in the parking lot headed for the nearest space near the market I thought, "9/11,a good day for a blood drive".
Then I saw a camouflage painted van truck with the words Operation Helmet painted on the side. "What's this?" I wondered. More on the flip side. Read more... (3 comments, 480 words in story) by keepinon
It is amazing, economic-law defying, illogical, too good to be true, but it is! The best part is that it is at a gasoline station near you right now! Yes, it's time once again for BushCo. Oil to hold its semi-annual, pre-election day fire sale on gasoline. With demand steady if not rising slightly, and seemingly significant supply concerns on the West Coast, one could expect prices to be having a hard time holding steady. Not to worry, BushCo is one step ahead and prices, (in case you have been too distracted by the ABC/Disney flap to notice) prices have been in free fall!

Yesterday was a rainy summer day in S.E. Michigan. The wife and I took advantage and caught a matinee showing of "An Inconvenient Truth" at the local theater complex. What they are saying about the movie is accurate. This is a very well made, very powerful lecture about the reality of global warming.
If you have not yet, you must see this movie. More after the fold. Read more... (13 comments, 440 words in story) by keepinon
What with Booman on the move and all, I thought what better time than now to unveil my poetic prowess? Since I have been hanging round the pond (from about late summer I think) so many wondrous things have been going on, I have become truly inspired. And so, my initial attempt (more than likely my last) at poetry with shall I say, an edge? I don't know if this qualifies as a real diary, but I do have faith that all the kind souls here will allow this "more mature" frog his day. The Ode follows after the fold as they say.

I have no experience with posting diaries but while reading the Detroit Free Press this a.m. I jumped from my breakfast and dashed to my computer. According to an headline article written by staff writer Michael Ellis with help from staff writer Mark Phelan "Delphi demands a 63% pay cut from the U.A.W." Quoting from the story "Delphi Corp. has demanded such drastic cuts in wages and benefits for workers that, according to one local U.A.W. local union, its members would no longer be able to afford they help build. According to a flyer sent to at least two U.A.W. locals Thursday, the company is asking for wage cuts of as much as 63%, to $10 an hour, and for workers to pay 27% of their health care cuts, versus 7% currently." More after the flip.

If 10,000 or 100,000 or 250,000 or 500,000 or more people gathered in DC. this past weekend to protest the war in Iraq, and the rest of the nation doesn't know about it, did the protest really happen?
Here in S.E. Michigan, The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News are the two large daily papers. Looking through the Sunday issue, I found a story concerning the anti war protest on page 14 A. This AM, try as I might, I could find no mention of the protest in The Free Press. There was a paragraph or two about a couple hundred pro war supporters who staged a counter rally on Sunday. So the question remains, did Saturday really happen? by keepinon
