UPDATE, Sunday, 10:31 AM EST: I have seen a clarification by Hunter over at DKos:
Markos never said everyone would get a warning even in administrative bans. Warnings are what happens when we think someone is just having a bad day, but is almost certainly redeemable. If people are going to complain about the rules, it’d be great if they at least not freak out over imaginary ones. by Hunter on Sat Feb 10, 2007 at 10:14:51 PM PST Thank you for clarifying, Hunter, I understand now - the “new system” as set forth by Kos on Dec 6 really only applies to SOME people. The rules are different depending on who you are. If you’re not a crony of Kos, these new rules don’t apply, except at on alternate Thursdays between 2 and 6 pm. I apologize for not reading the fine invisible print. *********** It has come to my attention that some people are unaware of the stated site policy at DKos regarding warnings and bannings.
Now, we have a warning system in place. If someone steps out of bounds (being an asshole in the comments, copyright violation, etc.), an admin can lock down the user's account. A warning shows up at the top of the page explaining the transgression. The user has to click a button acknowledging he or she has read the warning before being given access to the site. I never received any such warning before being banned. Neither have any of the banned people I've talked to, and they were all banned after the new policy was supposedly implemented. The reason I post this here is that I know some commenters here participate over at DKos too, and they should be aware that the DKos administration does not follow their own rules.
For Booman and the readers here: since you are now in the process of retooling your site rules, I would like to suggest that you bear this in mind: rules and procedures that are applied haphazardly or with favoritism have a deleterious effect on the community. Comments >> (54 comments) by hrh

Mary Daly, with her labrys One of the best writers I've encountered -both in feminist philosophy, and in the world outside that "ghetto" - is Mary Daly, radical lesbian feminist theologian and activist. She hits the nail on the head on so many issues, and does it with fiery eloquence. She's a true Supervixen. I'll provide a couple of quotes from her works today. The passages in bold are my emphasis.
The first quote introduces the word "snool", a marvelously useful word:
As Wanderlusty/Wonderlusty women weave our way Weirdward into the Realms of Pure Lust we find we must fight off the Fixers/Tricksters, those poisonous presences whose program is to freeze/frustrate our Movement. These are the sovereigns of the sadostate, which can also be called the State of Boredom. For it is infinitely boring to be blocked from the movement of/toward one's innately ordained happiness.[...] From Pure Lust: Elemental Feminist Philosophy.
She also addresses the problem of all those women in society who are programmed to obey and cater to men, and to attack any women who challenge the Snoolish Status Quo. I call them the "Little Sisters in the Frat House". Daly writes about this problem at length in her books, but here's a brief quote that gives the gist:
Hag-ographers perceive the hilarious hypocrisy of "his" history. At first this may be difficult, for when the whole is hypocrisy, the parts may not initially appear untrue. To put it another way, when everything is bizarre, nothing seems bizarre. Hags are women who struggle to see connections. Hags risk a great deal - if necessary, everything - knowing that there is only Nothing to lose. Hags may rage and roar, but they do not titter. from Gyn/Ecology: The Metaethics of Radical Feminism. The aware Supervixen will learn to recognize these Snools and Titterers in her life. She will stay away from them as much as possible. She will fend them off and build up her shields against them. They are "psychic vampires" intent on sucking her energies and destroying her. And they are all over - especially on the Internet. A word to the wise is sufficient. Be careful out there. After having been autobanned from Daily Kos for the crime of being a "troll" (read: saying things that the cabal in power didn't want to hear), I've started my own blog, the Planet of the Feminist Supervixens:
http://supervixens.wordpress.com/ There will be discussion of feminism and related topics, in the same vein of the "Feminist Supervixens" series I ran on Daily Kos. Plus other stuff that I might feel like writing about. Come by and say hi! Bring any leftover New Year's champagne you might have :-) Comments >> (3 comments) by hrh
This week's Feminist Supervixens diary at Daily Kos is about the Restoration playwright Aphra Behn and her cohorts, by poster "aphra behn".
There has been an intense spate of windbaggery at DKos this evening, so this excellent diary is scrolling off fast. Please come and check it out, if you are at all interested in literature, feminism and women in history. Please pardon the plug, but I thought some of you would like to know about this. |
