It would be easy to say "this country has changed since I was a boy" but it hasn't changed that much. Growing up during the red scare of the 50's when the churches were loaded with people that were fearful that the Russians were going to send us an atomic bomb or invade - remember Eisenhower got the interstate highway system built because we would be able to move the troops quickly to defend the nation. The worst though has been the hoarding of the wealth that has taken place - I recall income tax rates being significantly higher for the wealthy so that they couldn't accumulate a greater percentage of the wealth - that is very unhealthy for our society - to much of a gap between the very wealthy and the poor - can't identify with each other and all that crazy Marxist stuff. We had better get the brain trust to work or will end of electing someone like that Kansas senator who will sneak in a flat tax that will do nothing more than make that gap wider still.

It's about time that the editorials are coming around to see that sending more troops is not a solution - it just means more deaths and casualties. Only legit reason is for getting those who are there out of there safely. I wish I could believe that Bush has that intent but I think trying to save face is at the top of his agenda. I wish I could think one nice thought about he and his lovely wife but after she blamed the conservative media for her husbands shortcomings (again) I see no hope for my thoughts becoming positive.

Can we nominate Olbermann? His comments show some strength. An apology for something you didn't do or one that is an apology for how your comments might be taken by someone who would take "Happy Birthday" as an insult is truly weak.
The neo cons must be laughing their asses off at making the Jackasses look so vulnerable. You are making my change to Independent look more desirable everyday. But your lack of support for the Lamont showed your true irresponsible nature. I have been a long time Democrat and I have never seen such signs of weakness. by donmyers
I believe it was last Thur when some very informed guests were discussing the corruption found in Congress - even I was shocked - the discussion was at the highest level and so I was very interested in the gross amount of corruption that has become rather common place through the process of "earmarking funds" after legislation has been passed. Did anyone else share my interest and shock?
