Many of you already know the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee's held a hearing today entitled "Allegations of Misconduct at the General Services Administration." One of the allegations explored by the committee was the misuse of GSA funds and resources for political purposes, and the document on which this allegation is based is a Power Point presentation delivered by Karl Rove's aide Scott Jennings. The presentation, delivered 26 January 2007, is the official 2007 and 2008 strategy of the White House Office of Political Affairs. Included therein are graphs and charts pertaining to district PVI, Presidential party performance in midterm elections, overall Presidential party performance during a particular President's term, House seat statistics, including PVI, party affiliation in recent elections, partisan identification trends, data on the Republicans' 72 hour program, voter registration data, turnout data, case studies on the success of the 72 hour program and lists of vulnerable House, Senate and gubernatorial seats. While some of this information is presented in a skewed manner, some of this data is very useful.

The following is a diary Mike Stagg, who ran for the House in LA-07 last November, posted at MyDD on Friday, only to have it pushed aside by all the Presidential diaries. After we lost one LA State House seat last weekend, I believe we should try to support Langhoff, whether it be through volunteering, contributing or blogging. Here is Mike's dairy, and I will try to write more at another time. Although Mike works with the Langhoff campaign, I do not; I just support her candidacy.
Deborah Langhoff, you may recall from my other diaries, is a Democrat running for a seat recently vacated by a Republican. Because Republicans plan on sweeping all statewide and legislative offices this year, we really need to win this seat. Langhoff's main Republican opponent in the open primary is Jeb Bruneau, the son of Republican Peppi Bruneau, who evacuated this seat on short notice in order to create a short special election cycle to the benefit of his son. Langhoff is a grassroots organizer who has the chance to win this seat, and I ask everyone to support her and her really promising campaign. Read more... Third party validation is always welcome, especially when supporters of certain candidates willfully ignore their particular candidate's shortcomings. This is why I am so elated with this article published today in the Washington Post. Highlighting Obama's trajectory from community activist to machine politician, this article puts to rest the myth that Obama is a political outsider. A product and a supporter of the Chicago political machine, Obama and his prevaricating rhetoric give this voter a reason to question his integrity. In other words, Obama's mendacity creates the cynicism he so vacuously criticizes in all of his campaign speeches.

Having had penned multiple diaries on Louisiana politics and the plight of the Democratic party in my state here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here, I am elated Thomas F. Schaller of Whistling Past Dixie fame has written this 20 FEB 2007 article for Salon.com on the GOP's planned 2007 sweep of Louisiana. The situation is grim, and the graphic accompanying his article, a blue Louisiana in the process of being delaminated into a red Louisiana, aptly summarizes the state of affairs in my state.

Cloture was just invoked on the Minimum Wage Bill on the Senate floor. The Senate bill differs from the House bill, as the Senate bill includes small business tax relief, a compromise reached in the Senate Finance Committee. Even though this benefit was included in the bill, some Republican Senators still refused to end debate on the bill. These Senators, it can safely be assumed, do not wish to raise the minimum wage at all.

Bobby Jindal plans on completing the Southern Strategy by running for Governor of Louisiana in 2007. He will raise millions, and he will rely on Sen. David Vitter (R-LA)'s leadership PAC in order to run smear ads against his Democratic opponents.

I already posted a list ranking the 132 most vulnerable members of the House. Here is a list of the 60 most vulnerable House Democrats. Rankings are based on PVI, 2004 incumbent or incumbent party performance and 2006 incumbent performance. Those who received less than 55% of the vote in 2006 are in bold, and House fresh(wo)men are in italics.

Ranking every House seat by PVI, incumbent or incumbent's party performance in 2004 and incumbent performance in 2006, I have obtained the following list of House seats in order of vulnerablility. While this list is in no way definitive, it does provide us with a rough sketch of the 2008 landscape. New members are in italics, and members who received less than 55% are in bold. Following the name of each incumbent is her or his district's PVI, which is explicated here. My calculations also consider the results of special elections and runoffs.
