Blue Finger

by Delaware Dem
Fri Nov 3rd, 2006 at 05:16:00 PM EST

Cross posted on MyDD and Daily Kos.

A Fellow Kossack Stand Strong had an excellent idea.

He suggests that every Democratic voter paint one of their index fingers blue in representation of not only our Democratic vote, but our steadfast repudiation of the President and his evil Republican Party.

Indeed, we have the power to steal away on their more memorable photo ops of the Iraq War...

Out of Many. One.

by Delaware Dem
Tue Jul 18th, 2006 at 11:06:16 PM EST

Cross Posted in Blue and Orange.

On the Eve of Blogosphere Day, I spent my evening (and a considerable part of the work day) with Chris Bowers of MyDD, BooMan, and the other denizens of Drinking Liberally and stars of the Philly Blogosphere (among them Atrios).  Chris and I went to the screening of Inconvenient Truth, which featured a question and answer session with the former Vice President and current legitimate President himself.

Chris and I arrived promptly at 4:00 p.m.  I arrived before Chris and had to spurn the advances of Green Party petitioners who seized the opportunity of Al Gore's appearance for a petition drive to get them on the ballot.

Return the Money and We Will Replace It

by Delaware Dem
Fri Jan 6th, 2006 at 11:40:34 AM EST

Cross Posted at Daily Kos

Asked about Abramoff, [Senate Minority Leader Harry] Reid told the Las Vegas Sun, "I don't know him. I don't want to know him. I know nothing about it other than what I read in the newspaper. ... This is a Republican scandal." Link

It won't be a Republican Scandal for long if Senator Reid, the Democratic Leader in the Senate, and potential 2008 Democratic Presidential Candidate Senator Clinton do not return Abramoff-tainted money.  It is untenable that we are currently in a position where President Bush can say that he is returning such tainted contributions, but the Democratic Leader and presumed standard-bearer in the next Presidential election cannot.

But Reid has his reasons:

Brown People

by Delaware Dem
Thu Jan 5th, 2006 at 09:51:55 AM EST

Cross Posted at Daily Kos

Interesting and revealing article in this week's issue of Time Magazine:

Before heading to Congress, Republican J.D. Hayworth of Arizona was a sportscaster with a signature home-run call: "It's vapor!" Now the conservative Hayworth, 47, is making a similar charge about President Bush's plan to tighten the border with Mexico and establish a limited guest-worker program. He is about to publish an anti-immigration manifesto, "Whatever It Takes," that should rile up right-wing radio just as the White House was hoping to gain traction for a broad immigration-reform package.

Cindy Sheehan in Philly / Happy Hour

by Delaware Dem
Fri Sep 16th, 2005 at 01:14:07 PM EST

So who is going to Cindy's rally at 5th & Market Streets (Independence Mall) in Philadelphia at 5 pm.

I think it would be a great opportunity to meet her, and then for the liberal drinkers among us to walk down to Olde City for some beers later.

So, who's in Philly?

The Truth v. The Bible

by Delaware Dem
Thu Aug 4th, 2005 at 10:49:53 AM EST

DISCLAIMER: This is cross posted in the diaries on Daily Kos and MyDD.

I am a pretty religious Catholic who believes in Jesus Christ.  But I can treat the Bible as something less than the absolute truth.  Indeed, I believe it is one large allegory preaching to primative and medieval man values and morals.

There are some fantastic stories in the Bible that as a kid I was skeptical about.

I mean, come on, the Red Sea just parting for Moses?   Yeah, that doesn't wash.   The entire planet flooded, and only Noah and his ark full of humans and animals surviving?  Unlikely, as we would have evidence of it in the worldwide fossil record.

The world created in just 6 days?  I rather believe William Jennings Bryan's theory in the Scopes Monkey trial that a day back in biblical times could have lasted millions of years.
